Nearly 40 years after the Santa Barbara spill, public opinion has shifted. Drilling technology is less accident-prone, and the United States is desperately searching for domestic oil sources to combat rising energy prices.

Of course it will fade. Human attention span, especially American attention span, is very short. Worse, we are unable to learn from past mistakes. Look at the unbelievable mess we're in!!

I really don't think American's forget-it's just that it's not covenient to remember. People sit around and complain that the simplest appliance they buy doesn't work correctly, their TV always breaks down, the cable goes out--"they just don't build them like they used to". The corporate mentality that operates the plants that make these ever breaking objects of our daily lives is the same mentality that will be operating the oil wells. I don't believe there will not be a disaster just as I do not believe that an oil pipeline in Alaska or anywhere else is impervious to leaking. It's lies, its a political bandaid for the American people made just big enough to get us to shut up and believe that our government is taking care of us. I don't believe it and I won't shut up. Stealing the words of a good friend of mine the oil companies can BITE ME!!!

Not when oil giants like T. Boone Pickens are claiming the offshore drilling plan is a completely politically motivated SHAM!!!

Wasting more money on offshore drilling just further delays our liberation from the dependency on oil. Had we started investing 30 years ago when the problem was identified, we wouldn't be in the dire state we are in today.

For the sake of our national security, the environment, and our economy...we must invest in alternative energy. This cannot wait another 4 years!!!

Go to to see the amount of, "lobbying" money and "campaign contributions" received by the pro-drilling camp. Maybe if the pockets of Exxon, BP, and Chevron were a bit more shallow, the call for drilling wouldn't be so pronounced.

Please, everyone, we can't let Congress allow offshore drilling. Please start urging your friends, family and neighbors to hear the truth about it! This is so important!

Sure, the faster we destroy the environment, the the more money in the pockets of the rich when mankind becomes extinct! Someone tell them they can't take it with them!
