Misinforming the Israelis! The Israelis are not that stupid as to believe what the IDF is telling them, but their effort to lie and mislead is mindboggling. Usually politicians lie to cover for the army, but here they are in lockstep.

Mind you, Sam - would you expect IDF to use a site to tell the truth?
They have their Israel Project, with the 2009 Global Language Dictionary (a study supposed to be kept secret ...but was leaked) as guidelines on how to manipulate discussions to convince media and ordinary US citizens to support poor Israel against all those who criticise ....

More truth can be found from the mouths of those who can't bring themselves to live with the lies .. for example, Breaking the Silence organisation, which brings together former IDF members and collects testimonies concerning what they have done and seen during their service; the refusniks who refuse to serve in Occupied Palestine; Gush Shalom .... and a number of other Israeli organisations who want the truth to be known.

And the reality of what is being seen from inside Gaza ... getting out despite all efforts to curb images and comments ... gives the lie to many statements, to twists in presentation of facts. With the social media, there would be voices within Gaza complaining if really the situations were as described by IDF .... but it is IDF, not Hamas, that is targetting those using mobile phones to tweet photos, comments .....

Perhaps a major problem of the Israel Project is that the study addressed how to manipulate US audiences ... but it is a whole world outside, many don't have the same cultural mindset, so the tweaks to win their hearts don't work the same way ... making the media war one that IDF & the Israeli leadership are far from winning

Thanks, Sam - good to see where some posters in these discussions get their "facts" ... and maybe even believe them

Yes, the adaptation of the truth - if there is such a thing as The Truth, mind you - has been going on for a long time and that is part of the trouble. If you start lying you need to keep on lying so you go from bad to worse. And if you want to stay in power as Netanyahu does, you have to continue your lies and use them to stay on top. Nothing extraordinary about that: take the way the US Republicans play their game of Zombie Lies, it is very similar.

An additional problem is that not all the articles published here by the IDF are made up. They are extremely one-sided, yes, and many may have been brought in line with the current political agenda, yes, but Hamas of course isn't squeaky clean either and does pose a threat to the Israelis. In no way comparable to the threat Israel has posed and is posing on the Palestinian people, but Hamas' strikes are felt like a threat nevertheless. It is no use calling everything that comes out of the IDF or the Israeli government a lie, because that isn't quite true and that certainly isn't the way it feels to the 'average' Israeli. This truth may have been 'edited' and filtered deliberately, but the Israelis live in fear because of it and fear always provides bad counsel. It is very difficult to distinguish the truth from the lies in these IDF reports, but brushing them off as all lies is counter-productive as that doesn't match the daily reality of Israelis, however much the fear may be deliberately instilled and trumped up. It doesn't work in the US for for Republicans and sadly not for the 87% of Israelis who now agree with continuing the war in Gaza until it is won, whatever that means.

Evelyn, would you expect al-Jazeera ~ a Qatar-based, Sunni terrorist news source that extols the virtues of jihad ~ annihiliting the infidel Jews, Shi'a, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus ~ is reporting truthfully?
In and of itself, don't you think that a now-allied Sunni terrorist organization firmly entrenched in Gaza to protect the declared Shi'a and undeclared Jewish civilian population from Jews presents some rather awkward and disturbing questions?

Interestingly, the post of our friend, Good H., was removed.

This is what his post said:

Miko Peled, Israeli Son Of Military General, Talks About What Is REALLY Going On In Israel, Historically All The Way Up To Today.

The link provided apparently wasn’t acceptable to Care2.

Luckily, our friend, Evelyn
, was able to give us access to Mr. Miko Peled’s valuable and informative speech.

In my own way of looking at things, I chose to refer to Mr. Peled as the Howard Zinn of Israel. When you listen to his speech, you’ll find out why.

This is the link to his speech:

I just got this in from Gush Shalom's Adam Keller - please help to disseminate this widely - thanks a lot!

Friday, August 1, 9am, the Peace Bus will leave Jerusalem, carrying medicines and clothes, as well as flowers, intended for the people of Gaza. Also postcards written by Israelis and addressed to Gazans, trying to bridge the terrible abyss. En route the bus will go through Tel Aviv and Be'er Sheba and visit the Israeli communities on the Gaza border.

Please come on board to make the message of the Peace Bus stronger and to meet people living on the border of the conflict region. Presenting a message of peace in the conflict zone is of vital importance, as is maintaining touch between Israel's center and perphery - to stay together.

Collection of medicines (everyone has some new, unused medicines he or she doesn't need, which can be donated to hospitals in Gaza), money for medicines and clothes started already on Sunday. Contact and will make an afford to come and pick up your donation. All donations will be delivered to Gaza by our activists.

Write a postcard with a message of peace for Gaza or if you are far: send the message via email. We need them by the end of the next week. We will translate all messages in English and Hebrew into Arabic.
For Thursday, July 31, 6pm, Jerusalem, is planned DEMONSTRATION at Kikar Safra, (Jerusalem Municipality Square), and decoration of the Peace Bus with flowers

We are ready to come on the 3rd Journey and deliver medicines to the people in Gaza (we start collecting the medicine and the money to buy medicines in order to provided both direct and symbolic support from Israelis to the Gazans during the humanitarian catastrophe). Let's take a one day break, collect energy and start Sunday with some ideas and actions. First things first - we need to contribute ourselves and find foundations supporting our project ...

We just got back from the town of Sderot on the Gaza border, where on our 2nd bus journey we visited families who support peaceful solution of the conflict and were inspired by conversations. We've been also on a our condolences visit to a Bedouin camp next to Dimona, where a part of a rocket fired by Hamas (after the rocket was intercepted, but some shrapnel fell down) killed a Bedouin man and wounded his children. It was a good journey and more will follow. I apologize, folks, that the web-radio broadcasting came short this time, some technical stuff we'll have to learn how to solve.

Our vision is to create the reality where Palestinians and Israelis can live in peace and dignity. We are not offering political solutions nor do all of us have a common political view. We do not have ready recipes. But what we a certain of is that we cannot continue hating, fighting, killing each other. In 66 years of war we could not achieve any permanent solution - we believe that it's time to try a different path.

On the Peace Bus we promote principles of tolerance, understanding and non-violence. People of all religions, colors, nations, genders come together in the loving attitude to see what the media is trying to hide away from us – a true face of the so called "enemy". In the eyes of an Israeli and Palestinian child you will discover innocence and remember yourself once being a child, free from prejudices and hate. In this moment we mourn for all those who perished during this unnecessary and tragic conflict: not just in the current one, but for all the innocents who lost their lives in the war of hatred.

We want to see the perspectives of both sides: suffering of Palestinians and Israelis alike. We are all human beings who happened to be raised as enemies. And this is a real tragedy. We can not live in peace as long as other side is suffering. Therefore, the PEACE IS OUR COMMON GOAL!

NB - not all religious Israelis support the violence of State policy - in fact, many Orthodox Jews oppose violence, and are struggling against Israeli laws forcing their young people to serve in the IDF ... And many Jews following the Torah closely disapprove vocally of the violence - saying this is NOT supported by the Torah.

But other Orthodox (or extremists using religion as their excuse) certainly see violence against Palestinians as justified - using their twisted arguements and half truths and lies ... and they are the ones who don't want any peace WITH the Palestinians - only peace over the dead bodies of those Palestinians who don't have the "sense" to flee ...

While there are Israelis struggling for human rights of Palestinians, justice for all and hence peace WITH Palestinians - as Eleonora reminds us.

Barbara - you've obviously never watched Al Jazeera. In many parts of the world, the English Al Jazeera TV is getting a reputation for balanced reporting similar to that of the BBC in the past ... I've seen interviews with Israeli leaders who gave their views ... without the kind of behaviour seen on Fox towards Palestinian-American guests ....

Evelyn B (63)

Lona - excellently stated points.
"This truth may have been 'edited' and filtered deliberately, but the Israelis live in fear because of it and fear always provides bad counsel. It is very difficult to distinguish the truth from the lies in these IDF reports, but brushing them off as all lies is counter-productive as that doesn't match the daily reality of Israelis, however much the fear may be deliberately instilled and trumped up. "

And you are right - Hamas is far from "squeaky clean" - some members are dangerous, mostly among the military wing - but Hamas as a whole is not a total, criminal monster, and is not responsible for all the ills that Israel propaganda would like to attribute to it. I'd never take Hamas' word as complete and utter truth ... any more than I take as truth the words of Regev or any other mouthpiece of the State of Israel.

The fact is, most people in Israel live in fear carefully sustained by government and Zionist handling of "information" ... and except when they meet as equals with ordinary Palestinians, the way this fear is manipulated doesn't even occur to them. Jewish history is full of examples of people hating Jews, the very worst being under Nazi Germany - so they are all too often preconditioned to fear the worst - and hence see it, interpret anything as "proof" that the fears are founded ...

It has become a dirty war and most likely will never end.
I say, if some one would launch a missile at my home, I would return the favour ten fold, no matter where it came from.
Lucky for Israel, the jihad terrorists fight each other to self destruction.
Does Israel lie? Any country at war will fuel a propaganda machine, whatever side of the fence you are on, especially in modern history, WW1 & 2 etc. The lies are always in favour of the winners, the losers are not to be believed. It may never be the real truth.
I do tend to believe in Israel's struggle to survive, world wide terrorism is not only confined against Israel. Jihad is not only against Israel. They took on the world of non Muslims, they totally lost it. Every Muslim refugee coming to western countries is not a refugee, they have one thing in mind: breed like rabbits and take over in the name of stupidity and treat their own women as a piece of pork.
Yes, this may insult some people. I do have great respect for women.and religion. Muslims do not accept this.

Evelyn, you finished my viewpoint splendidly. Through the ages the Jewish people, who had spread to all corners of the world, have been subject to persecution and hate and have learned the hard way that the only ones they can trust are their own people. So imagine how hard it must be for the Israelis to acknowledge that they can not trust their leaders to be truthful. It's nearly impossible for anybody but especially for the Jews when there are so many examples of them being hated and anti-Semitism on the rise. As you correctly state: "so they are all too often preconditioned to fear the worst - and hence see it, interpret anything as "proof" that the fears are founded ..". Add to that the preconditioning to only believe your own leaders, something that is inherent in ALL nations with a strong national identity, by the way, and you're headed for trouble.

From my own experience as the daughter of a Jewish mother who survived the German holocaust I can tell you how difficult and painful it has been to go against the grain and dare to criticize what the Israeli government is doing, now and previously. And I still can't and won't blame the whole of Israel as a nation. Instead I try to understand both sides in this conflict.
But at this point the most important is that the carnage in Gaza stops immediately and the blockade is lifted, the wall is taken down and Palestinians are allowed to live a normal life.

Evelyn, I'm sure you're absolutely right. Given their long and very notable history of factual, impartial reporting, there can be no question of the veracity of their coverage of current events. And I'm sure Qatar's royal family makes certain they keep their noses clean.

Just out of curiousity, it's obvious why you're all intimately familiar with every heinous event and violation, crime and atrocity that Israel's allegedly committing. But given that you all live in France, Australia, Oregon, New Jersey, Egypt...and I know you wouldn't read it in Israeil are you all so intimately acquainted with the Israeli people's opinions and how they live? I keep reading your comments that Israelis are refusing to serve, and that they're holding giant protest rallies, Orthodox Jews are condemning BIBI (that one's really rich!).
Just asking.

"Just out of curiousity, it's obvious why you're all intimately familiar with every heinous event and violation, crime and atrocity that Israel's allegedly committing."

No one can ever be familiar with EVERY heinous event, violation, crime and atrocity that Israel is committing. It takes 100 lifetimes to do that.

But the biggest crime of all is to still refer to these crimes with "allegedly." The victims of these crimes would not appreciate that.

In one of the rare words of truth ,Ben Gurion ,the father of the nation as he is called by Zionists said few words he might regret if he is back to life. He will regret saying the words and unveiling the truth of Aionists. Read carefully what he said:

1 - "If I were an Arab leader, I would never sign an agreement with Israel. It is normal; we have taken their country. " - David Ben-Gurion (Polish born Israeli Statesman and Prime Minister (1948-53, 1955-63).

2 - "We must use terror, assassination, intimidation, land confiscation, and the cutting of all social services to rid the Galilee of its Arab population." - David Ben-Gurion, a.k.a. David Grün (1886-1973), Israeli Prime Minister (1948-53, 1955-63) revered by Israelis as "Father of the Nation"

*'[Peace] initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement... Those conferences are no more than a means to appoint the infidels as arbitrators in the lands of Islam... There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility.'

[T]he Islamic Resistance Movement aspires to the realisation of Allah’s promise, no matter how long that should take. The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said:

'The Day of Judgment will not come about until Moslems fight Jews and kill them. Then, the Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will cry out: 'O Moslem, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him.' (Article 7)((related by al-Bukhari and Muslim - Bukhari:V4B52N177 ).)

(Article 8) of the Hamas charter, reads: “Allah is its target, the Prophet is its model, the Koran its constitution: Jihad is its path and death for the sake of Allah is the loftiest of its wishes.”
