Israel confirmed it was planning to appropriate a large tract of fertile land in the occupied West Bank, close to Jordan, a move likely to exacerbate tensions with Western allies and already drawing international condemnation.

Good article--lousy article title. This certainly complicates efforts for peace and as a two state solution kind of guy I condemn it. Both peoples deserve a state and this just doesn't work towards that goal. Otherwise it's just another round of hatred and war never ending.

Israel says will seize West Bank land; demolishes EU structures
Seems a pretty strong title already, Sam! Stronger than yours, this time!!!

"COGAT, a unit of Israel's Defence Ministry, said the political decision to seize the territory had been taken and "the lands are in the final stages of being declared state lands"."

Cal makes a good point about this (further) complicating any hope for peace-building.

How much further is BN & his government going to push before his "impunity" collapses? Not that I don't appreciate the downstream impact when his policies shake the support of people who tend to support Israel most of the time .... and this kind of arrogant stance does just that ...

""We believe they're fundamentally incompatible with a two-state solution and call into question, frankly, the Israeli government's commitment to a two-state solution," Deputy State Department spokesman Mark Toner said on Wednesday."
- Well, BN already made it clear during the elections that he DOESN'T have any commitment to such a solution, so why is the US Government always - and still - surprised at acts that condemn any such solution?

Grabbing of land for agriculture is stealing Palestinian capacity to feed their own people - and also implies taking more water from the Palestinians, in order to develop Israeli farms .... This is far more than simple land grabbing.

Thanks, Sam

"They're building without authorization, against the accepted rules, and there’s a clear attempt to create political realities," - , really?! Yeah, that has been your privilege so far, we know Mr Nutyahoo. Obviously, we learned from you and we'll send you the bill for destroying what our taxpayers funded!

I hope the PA will waste no time and RUSH a resolution to the UN and this time, I hope Obama, too will send the thief the bill for pissing an ocean into his face! Basta veto, enough already!
Thanks Sam.
Btw, I would argue the original headline may be misleading, suggesting this would be a first time of land theft. Sam pointed out how that's far from the truth.

Israel must finally be stopped with the occupation of the land of Palestine. Because America stands behind Israel they have the feeling that they can get away with anything, and this has to stop now !!!

Thanks for sharing Sam

Ros, since your geat video briefly mentions the Chinese wall, well, the new kid on the block is weighing in now too..and from quite high level:
'“China firmly supports the Middle East peace process and supports the establishment of a State of Palestine enjoying full sovereignty on the basis of the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Xi told the Arab League’s delegates."
Better watch out Bibi! Especially since the axis Beiing-Tehran is gaining speed..

Israel keeps pushing the boundaries - no pun intended - to see how far they can go. And because across the world some disagreement bubbles up here and there, but nothing much else happens and Israel has stolen itself another piece of fertile territory it's going to exploit and build on as if it owns it. All the Palestinians can do is watch.

Evelyn & Angelika both stated it well for me. I agree that this absolutely must stop. Also agree that the U.S. must stop sending Israel money and weapons. Their economy is self-sustaining much more than ours in the U.S. at this point. Time for America to be more selfish with our tax dollars and take care of our country and citizens.....rather than continuing to support a greedy, narcissistic bully and thief like Netanyahu.

Israel will do whatever it likes as long as its sugar daddy Uncle Sam mollycoddles it. Not only that, when all else fails the Israelis can always play the Holocaust Card. Sorry, but that card is all worn out. Netanyahu is the worst enemy Israel has ever had.

What a vicious shrub!
This one comes across as a big sweep, surely it will raise some tensions, more or less.
But what about that 'jewel', which simply goes unnoticed: (from Wikipedia): According to Meron Benvenisti, the site was until 1948 only holy to Muslims, and Jews ascribed no holiness to it.Today the dedicated inscriptions from the Mamluk period remain engraved on the stone walls of the tomb but the cloths embroidered with verses from the Qur´an, with which the gravestones were draped, have been replaced by draperies bearing verses from the Hebrew Bible. (fragment, history of Kfar Saba, Wikipedia)
Did anyone ever notice that? I don't think so....It actually wouldn't be such a big deal; but here's the context: the site was until 1948 only holy to Muslims, and Jews ascribed no holiness to it.....but the cloths embroidered with verses from the Qur´an, with which the gravestones were draped, have been replaced by draperies bearing verses from the Hebrew Bible. This only shows how HIS-story is altered in HIS-state. And his-state wouldn't rest, with it's CTRL-ALT-DELETE policies, oops, CTRL+ALT+GRAB.
After all, this is no surprise ~
TY Sam

Like your turn of phrase - **************************************
And, a good point ....
Jerusalem's "sacred" standing for Jews has been predominantly cultural & traditional, not religious ....
"Next Year in Jerusalem" ...
A wish strongly shared by many Palestinians today ....... based on ties that are far more recent and direct than those of the descendants of the Diaspora, and the converted Jewish populations that can move to Israel freely .....

Please, do some giving, of land, supplies, prayers, aid, in some way - there's much too much destruction, war, and ill feelings already...and we all need to work together for positive results, for the common good, not simply fog the welfare of one small group with narrow interests -united, we can stand, divided, we will fall. What's being stolen is capacity for sustenance. awe all need peace on this earth...don't they realize that peace efforts are so much more powerful in terms of good results, than efforts that perpetrate destruction.

Unfortunately, there are Israelis who don't see things the same way -
BN's land-grabbing is very much in line with the mindset of a section of the Israeli population, some of which are more blunt (honest?) about their intentions:
Bennett urges Israeli annexation of West Bank
"Education Minister Naftali Bennett on Monday said Israel should annex the West Bank, beginning with the Etzion bloc and Binyamin regions.

“The time has come to say Israel is ours,” he said at a meeting of the Knesset’s Land of Israel Caucus. “To go from strategic defense to a process of initiating the implementation of Israeli sovereignty over the territories under Israeli control in Judea and Samaria.”

“We need to mark this as a strategic objective and stop the misunderstood message sent from Israel abroad,” added Bennett, who heads the Orthodox-nationalist Jewish Home party.

The caucus, which urges continued Israeli control over the entire West Bank, convened to celebrate the publication of a new wine guide.

The “New Israeli Wine Guide,” written by Israel Hayom wine reporter Yair Gat and Gal Zohar, a former wine curator in London who is employed as a consultant by a number of Tel Aviv restaurants, initially did not include wines made in West Bank settlements. After facing a backlash from the caucus, which accused it of boycotting the settlements, the authors relented and included settlement wines.

Earlier this month, Bennett reiterated his longstanding call for West Bank annexation in an interview with JTA.

“The approach that I’m promoting is reasonable, sane. In the Middle East, we don’t have the luxury to indulge in fantasy. If it were up to me, I would not wait. I would start with the Etzion bloc [in the West Bank near Jerusalem], and apply Israeli law and sovereignty on the Etzion bloc first,” the minister and leader of the Jewish Home party said.

“We did this twice before, both times unilaterally: in Jerusalem in 1967 and with the Golan in 1981. I would do it in 2015,” he added.

The caucus’s “main goal is to strengthen the State of Israel’s hold on all of the Land of Israel, particularly in Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley,” according to the Knesset website. It is chaired by Jewish Home MK Betzalel Smotrich and Likud MK Yoav Kisch.

Ilan Ben Zion contributed to this report."

Thanks for this Sam. Noted and read in disgust..
U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon denounced the move and Palestinian officials said they would push for a resolution at the United Nations against Israel's settlement policies.
