BLM has outlined its plan to remove hundreds of wild horses from Nevada, which will jeopardize the long-term viability of the herd, traumatize pregnant mares causing miscarriages & hand over 80% of the land to private livestock farmers.

The Interior Department Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is proposing to remove more than 500 horses from the 756-square-mile Stone Cabin Complex located 30 miles east of Tonopah in Nye County, Nevada. The Complex includes the Stone Cabin and Saulsbury Herd Management Areas (HMAs). The "Allowable" Management Levels (AMLs) for the two HMAs were agreed upon with livestock grazers in the area nearly two decades ago through a settlement agreement. Despite these unique and cherished horses, the BLM will

The proposed roundup will:

► Remove more than 500 wild horses from within and outside the Complex -- including removal of 334 mustangs from the Stone Cabin HMA and 170 mustangs from the Saulsbury HMA;

► Jepordize the long-term viability of the herd in the Saulsbury HMA, which is divided in two parcels of land, by leaving only 29 horses behind and skewing the sex ratio of the few wild horses allowed to remain there; and

► Potentially replace wild,free-roaming horses with permanently sterlized horses.

The proposed roundup will aslo stampede horses in late winter, February 2012, when mares are heavily pregnant. The trauma of late winter roundups has been documented to cause pregnant mares to suffer spontaneous abortions.

Despite its mandate to protect wild horses and the fact that these areas are designated by Congress as wild horse habitat, the BLM allocates approximately 80 percent (80%) of the resources in the Stone Cabin Complex to privately-owned livestock, not federally-protected wild horses.

How is one able to add a signature when it asks for zip/postal code - then I add my postal code and it says it does not recognize my zip? This is always the issue between Canada and the US on the internet. It is all about the US!!! The signatures are requested from everywhere but you only accept zips codes on the site? This needs to be addressed!

Noted & signed petition, thanks for sharing it. Until humans learn humanity, AND, how to be humane, this will never stop. The government is on a one-way trip to exterminating wild horses & burros from the wild, of that there is no doubt. The president is nothing more than a puppet in the hands of congress & high-powered officials & businesses. We CAN fight until we can no longer fight. Maybe, all of those who really care should "occupy" OUR tax dollars until our government gets their acts together, & refuse to pay our taxes that directly fund these round-ups/gathers, lifetime holding, & that fund the very real possibility of the return of horse slaughter on American soil! What will they do then, arrest all of us!? I think NOT! This is only my personal opinion, but I have no faith whatsoever in our American government, it is broken beyond repair. The way we treat our own citizens, our lands & environment, & all the animals that also live here, whether wild or tame, is nothing short of appalling & disgusting!

The BLM is just a shill for the ranchers. How did this country allow a gov't agency to be vicariously run by people who have only their own destructive interests to look out for? How the ranchers got so powerful that the BLM basically allows them to dictate policy is beyond me.

Petition signed. I try to sent these petitions to stop the wild horse roundup at least once a week. This is a terrible thing to do to horses that made America what it is today.
