But for the alertness of a 78-year-old conservancy worker, the obvious intention of an unknown mother to kill her new-born baby would have materialized.

The comment above I posted to a different story - not sure how it got here. Please disreguard.

Don't worry Dawn, this has been happening all day to me and others. But it goes away after you make a new one. I will never understand how a mother could do this to their baby. If you don't want it, there are so many who would love to have this precious bundle of joy. What goes around comes around. Thanks Kathy.

That's why "safe haven" laws are so important. We have one in Alabama - where a baby can just be left at a hospital, police station, fire station, etc. - no questions asked. No abandonment charges. Gives new mothers an "out" and, hopefully, they'll use it rather than killing their babies.

Hmmm, didn't expect to find a comment from myself on something I hadn't even looked at yet. And which clearly belongs elsewhere.

Ok, it's gone. With any luck this female will get herself sterilized before she endangers any more babies.

Thanks Joycey! I agree - safe haven laws are needed everywhere.

It sickens me to read something like this. So many people want a child and can't have one and here is a woman throwing her's in the trash. It happens so often, so many unwanted babies. Safe haven laws are needed. Give these babies to someone who will love and cherish them as it should be.
