We the Wangan and Jagalingou people are the Traditional Owners of the land in Queensland's Galilee Basin. The mining company Adani wants to use our ancestral lands for their Carmichael coal mine. We are opposed to this mine because it will forever damage

Ros - welcome! I hate injustice & abuse of human rights ... and when the environment stands to suffer as well ....

The whole coal/ Port Abbott programme just doesn't make sense anyway, Ros, except for the pockets to be lined in the construction side ... I've seen several reports raising serious queries about the economic viability of the programme, & suspect that the petitions would have carried less weight with the potential investors who've pulled out if the viability hadn't also been so questionable! (Cynical? Yes!)

And yes, saving the GBR would be a great bonus .... but it's the stampeding over rights (yet again) in this particular case that really makes me mad!!!

They're up to 86,179 signatures now! If the snowball is kept rolling from Care2 members signing as well as their usual network, they should reach the 100,000 target!

It's great to be a tiny cog in the works for them! Or do I mean, a grain of sand in the works of those who would grab and destroy them?! :^)

Petition signed. Just watching a documentary on Australia last night and there is all kinds of mining going on there for many different things. And, of course, the native people suffering.

AND besides that, as if that weren't enuf:
There's also THIS:

This can't be stated too often:
82% of Fossil Fuel Reserves must be LEFT IN THE GROUND
if we are to avert Climate CATASTROPHE due to Global Warming.

NO MORE drilling, coal mining, fracking,
and transporting, leaking and spilling and exploding,
and BURNING and spewing into the Atmosphere.
NO MORE exploration for new sources!

This should be Environmentalists' MANTRA:

Get this:

82% of Fossil Fuel Reserves MUST BE LEFT IN THE GROUND.
Of course, those making PROFIT$$$$$ off of Fossil Fuels are IGNORING this, they could CARE LESS about the Future of the Planet.....

I hope everybody realizes, that "Standing with the Indigenous People" is going to eventually involve LITERAL "STANDING" on your two feet, or somebody STANDING in your stead - as STANDING UP IN CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE, putting one's BODIES ON THE LINE, is the ONLY thing that MIGHT stop the brutal, inhuman Mining Companies...
and there are bound to be CASUALTIES.

Petitions, Letters, Publicity are fine, that is JUST THE BEGINNING of struggle...
"Power never gave up anything without a struggle. It never has, and it never will." Frederick Douglas, ex-slave and orator...

LIFE - for ALL of us - or Death. ECOCIDE for the Planet.

If there is ANY hope - it is here.
Australia is sitting on top of ALL SORTS OF MINERALS AND MINEABLE STUFF.
And the Corporations are just drooling to get their bloody hands on it....

Corporations are Evil and Death-dealing. They are not "people". People have minds and hearts and feelings and Souls, however you define that word. Corporations have NONE OF THOSE THINGS. Only GREED. That ONLY.

Again the indigenous people of Australia being taken advantage of. I really hope the referendum being held this year admits them to the Australian Constitution so they finally have some rights in this country.

So typical of companies taking over First Peoples' lands arrogantly, as if they never existed. I hope these tribes are successful in fighting back and preventing the madness, since they seem to be the only ones left in Australia that really care about what's left when all the profit has been taken out.
