Within Jokowi's first 100 days in office, in January this year, Indonesia executed six people. "We urge President Joko Widodo to save Mary Jane," Helda Khasmy said. "She is not a criminal; she is a victim." Tricked, trafficked, used as a mule.

Charges filed vs Mary Jane's alleged recruiter

& it is said there, too
"The Philippines on Friday filed a second appeal for an Indonesian court to review Veloso's case.

The second appeal asserts that Veloso is a victim of human trafficking. "

Thank you for your support for Mary Jane Veloso. She has been informed that her execution date is Tuesday April 28th. I'm trying to get as many signatures as possible to deliver the petition to President Widodo.

I keep wondering whether the government thinks a last minute clemency will somehow give them "good press" around the world ... But I realise that's probably wishfull thinking :>(

Indonesia defiant as UN leads condemnation of looming executions

Mary Jane Veloso refuses to sign letter notice for her execution
April 26, 2015 9:47am

Mary Jane Veloso, the Filipina facing execution in Indonesia for a drug-related offense, on Sunday refused to sign the letter notice for her execution handed to her by Indonesian authorities.

Citing information from a representative of the Philippine Embassy in Indonesia, a report on "News TV Live" on Sunday morning said Veloso and her lawyer, as well as the embassy representative, did not sign the letter notice as there is a pending second appeal for her case.

Also, the report said the letter notice contained the date for Mary Jane's execution by firing squad, which is April 28, 2015.

The embassy representative and Mary Jane's lawyer on Saturday attended a meeting at the prison on Nusa Kambangan Island, also known as Indonesia's "execution island.

After refusing to sign, Mary Jane was given by Indonesia authorities another letter indicating she refused to sign the letter notice of execution.

Mary Jane, the embassy representative, and her lawyer signed the second letter.

She is facing death for alleged smuggling of over 2.5 kg of heroin in 2010.

President Widodo's email address is not working any longer. I was not able to email my petition directly to him but I emailed it to Migrante International, the Philippine embassies in both Los Angeles and Jakarta, and the Indonesian embassy in Los Angeles. I am hoping one of them will give him the petition. It is more tham 250 pages, so I cannot fax it. Many thanks to all who signed. I hope there will be clemency.

It looks as though Mary Jane has had a reprieve - 8 men were executed today

The Guardian 2m ago at 19:14 GMT
(Bali 9 updates

My colleague Michael Safi has filed this latest report on the news that eight men have been executed tonight:

The Indonesian government has executed eight people for drug offences, including two Australians, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumuran, who were the subject of a years-long campaign for clemency.

The development – reported widely by Indonesian media but not officially confirmed – marks the end of years of campaigning to spare the men, who were sentenced to death in 2006 for their part in the “Bali Nine” heroin-smuggling ring.

Also executed were four Nigerians, a Brazilian and an Indonesian. All had been convicted of drug crimes.

Mary Jane Veloso, a Philippines woman, was reported to have received a last-minute reprieve.

Oh my gosh, it was a true miracle for Mary Jane! I'm so happy for her but I am not sure if she will later face the firing squad after the case against her recruiter is concluded. I hope not but we must stay vigilant for her. Praise God for the miracle!

I am saddened by the deaths of the other eight, however. Indonesia needs to reform their judicial system and bring penalties in line with the severity of the crime.
