In days, for the first time, Cameron and EU leaders will vote on an emergency humanitarian plan to save lives & provide safe refuge. But shamefully, Britain (& others) is threatening to bring it down, using us as an excuse: "public doesn't want to help"!

Days to Stop Europe’s Biggest Shame!

Terrified children, fleeing war and hunger, are drifting in rusting boats somewhere on the Mediterranean, praying they do not drown.

We could finally throw them a lifeline -- in days, for the first time ever, Cameron and EU leaders will vote on an emergency humanitarian plan to save lives and provide safe refuge.

But shamefully, Britain, together with countries like Czech Republic, Poland, and Spain is threatening to bring it all crashing down. Worse still, our government is using us as an excuse, claiming the British public doesn’t want to help!

We only have days to counter this narrative here and all over Europe with a massive call for compassion -- Avaaz has the chance to deliver our call straight into the leaders’ summit. Sign up now and let's show them we won’t accept this death sentence for the desperate.

To the European Commission and all EU Heads of State and Government:

As concerned citizens, we welcome the Commission’s Agenda on Migration as a first necessary step towards a strong and humane asylum system across the EU. We call on you to urgently adopt a comprehensive plan that saves lives, ensures the safe and legal resettlement of refugees, and establishes a fair and binding system to receive and assist people seeking refuge in Europe. We oppose any military action that hinders rescue efforts or puts those seeking sanctuary at risk.

Same here Evelyn. Said sorry, no page here. Wait! If you leave the page up long enough it will take you to another. On the right there is a heading called Happening Now showing petitions that have been signed. Eventually this petition will show and if you click on it, you can sign, then the second petition will come up to sign as well.
Done and thanks Evelyn.

They're human beings!!!! We can't just leave them to drown.

I agree the issue of economic migrants is a problem that needs looking at, but genuine asylum seekers, people fleeing murder, torture, persecution etc. giving such people sanctuary is something we have always done and should continue to do so.

I've never seen anything so heart breaking as the boat loads of people with o food or clean water, being pushed out back to sea. I was ashamed to be human!

The page link didn't work so couldn't sign. However, having lived in England for 20+ years I can say it is very likely the public do not want to help refugees, there have been too many race riots for some time. I would not call this an excuse on Cameron's part, I think it's very likely the truth.
