While it is true that people kill people, and that guns do not shoot themselves, it is also true that mass execution would not be possible without such high capacity weapons. How many people have to die before we ban those weapons?

You have to wonder what would break the NRA and Pro-Gun people sufficiently enough to make them see the current stance regarding guns and weaponry is wrong.

Shared all the articles and reshared the petition over social media to spread awareness, galvanize attention and encourage signers.

There is no reason for a private citizen to own an assault rifle! You don't need an AR-15 to protect your home when a Glock or Smith & Wesson will do. You don't need an AK-47 for hunting when a good rifle will bag a deer. (I'm no fan of hunting, unless it's for survival - but that is a different story that will be told a different day.)

In the wake of the Orlando shooting, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick tweeted “You reap what you sow”—which he soon deleted.

Well, in a way, he’s right. The GOP has been sowing the seeds of fear and hatred for years, hand-in-hand with the NRA; now we’ve been seeing the fruits of what they’ve sown. Too bad innocent people have to die from you and your party’s sowing, Mr. Patrick.

Yes, I know, that’s not what he meant. What he meant was that the victim is always at fault. The woman was “asking for it” when she gets raped; “these people” had it coming for the sin of their “lifestyle.”

Because the victim, according to people like Mr. Patrick, ALWAYS has it coming. (Unless they’re the victim. Then we’re supposed to feel sorry for them.)

Too bad innocent people have to die, while these so-called “pro-lifers,” these self-appointed arbiters of morality scream about Planned Parenthood “murdering babies” all the while doing nothing about the rash of assault weapons and mass shootings in this country, many of which take the lives of children.

Signed, many times over. My condolences to the friends and family of the victims of this latest tragedy.

America has devolved to the point where nobody is safe. You can be in the wrong place at the wrong time and get caught in the crossfire ... or you can be targeted by a crazed gunman for being black, or gay, or a member of Congress out meeting her constituents (Gabby Giffords). You'd think that after dozens of innocent little children were murdered at Sandy Hook, things would change ... but no. Nothing will happen until wealthy corporations start losing money. Let's say that foreign tourists start avoiding Orlando and Disney World and maybe even the entire state of Florida because they don't feel safe there. Corporations start losing revenue, complain to lawmakers and suddenly Congress starts talking again about banning assault weapons. Our politicians of both parties mostly care about money and staying in power. They don't give a damn about the innocent victims of all this carnage until the fallout hits them where it truly hurts ... their wallet.

******************************* Anne P!

But (without triggering an event in Disney World !) How can we trigger a way of voting with our wallets & our feet?

Can one start boycotting companies that SUPPORT NRA?
Start discouraging tourists from going to States with very vocal support for the gun lobby/ NRA?

Other ideas?

(Remember, in most States, a large majority of CITIZENS oppose current laws on assault weapons ... it's the leaders who are in the arms industry's & the NRA pockets who place their State in the "pro" gun lobby camp.)
