Losing Berta Caceres: The Breaking Point in the Struggle Against Impunity

We must make Berta's murder the catalyst that breaks the systematic impunity of cases like this, in Honduras and throughout the region. It's time to ensure that our indignation, the demands for justice & investigation made by countless orgs have an impact

One requires, we require, a change at a societal, cultural and regime level, in order to stop atrocities such as Berta Caceres' murder becoming common place.

Thanks Evelyn. Shortly before she was assassinated, Berta fingered Hillary as being one of the key figures for the coup and rampant devastation of Honduras and other areas in S. Amer.. When the Obama administration was just a few months new, S. Amer. welcomed him warmly until Hillary and her extreme rightwing backers, (her Honduran coup supporters and the 1% who rule the planet), stood up in defiance against the Obama administrations wishes.

Also, there were hundreds of letters that poured in demanding the immediate return of the ousted democratically elected president Zelaya. Those letters were from The UN General Assembly, Congress, World leaders and various top political factions around the globe.

Imagine how strong and confident you would have to be to stand against all of them. Well, Hillary did just that. So, that tells you who and what she and her backers are. Do you still think Trump is more dangerous? It may be that he is as bad, but at least it is partly out of ignorance and inexperience---not merely a cold-blooded, hawkish, greedy, power trip that cost so many assassinated environmental and human rights activists and other innocent bystanders their lives---never mind the devastation of Earth and all living.

Naturally, after the coup that she was instrumental in, foreign relations with S. Amer and many Latin American nations, was severed or greatly damaged. So, ask yourself why is Obama endorsing her and campaigning with and for her? Who and what is he? I can see who and what she is. If he is the same, we're in huge trouble. Berta Caceres' assassination (and other activists also), the coup in Honduras, the Zika virus, may be a good analogy for what is now taking place in America, from the middleclass on down. Savvy?

Thank you so much for not forgetting this marvelous woman that another woman who claims she is all about women's rights helped to set the stage of Berta's death.

“The Clintons have done enough damage,” Cheri Honkala, the leader of the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign said. “They decimated the working class with the North American Free Trade Agreement.

They exploded the prison population under the 1994 Omnibus Crime bill and draconian drug laws that mandated life sentences.

They destroyed the welfare system, and under the old system 70 percent of the recipients were children.

They turned the airwaves over to a half dozen corporations by deregulating the FCC.

They ripped down the firewalls between commercial and investment banks that precipitated the global meltdown.

Noted. Thanks, Evelyn.
I agree with the article that this is a movement that must continue to build and push strongly against the Corporate Establishment. I think Janice stated it best above, and I agree 100% with her comment.

Just saw this on The Guardian site! OMG!

Berta Cáceres, the murdered environmental campaigner, appeared on a hitlist distributed to US-trained special forces units of the Honduran military months before her death, a former soldier has claimed.

A unit trained by US special forces was ordered to kill the environmental activist who was slain in March, according to an ex-member who now fears for his life.

Lists featuring the names and photographs of dozens of social and environmental activists were given to two elite units, with orders to eliminate each target, according to First Sergeant Rodrigo Cruz, 20.
