Plastic Straws Are Disappearing From Hotels, Airlines, Cruises and Airports

The travel industry is no longer being hospitable to plastic waste. Momentum is growing to minimise the use of single-use plastic among hotels, airlines, airports, & cruise lines. Plastic waste has wreaked havoc on tourist destinations around the world.

There are already alternatives for bottles & cups! Why shouldn't hotels, cruise ships etc use glass, or pottery?
I'd love to see a massive swing back to use of glass bottles, maybe also the old system of 'deposits' on them that would be reimbursed when the empty bottle was returned. When I was little, we'd get a little money for the "empties" when we took them in to shops (which meant that we would gleefully collect any that careless people left lying around!!).

Although admittedly such containers are less practical for hiking etc - being more bulky & weighty!

I used to have a "fold-away" metal cup, fairly effective, too! But I lost it & haven't found an efficient substitute :(

Good start, though having all current plastic used in eating or drinking should be biodegradable much much sooner. Thanks for the post.

It's about time these companies became aware of the problems with single-use plastic! Thanks for posting this, Evelyn.

I too wish the U.S. and all other countries had deposits/refunds on all glass, plastic and metal beverage containers. In the U.S. the ten states that currently give refunds on various cans and bottles are Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, Iowa, New York and Hawaii ($0.05), Michigan and Oregon ($.0.10) and West Virginia ($0.01).
