Around 75% of US coal production is now more expensive than solar and wind energy in providing electricity to US households, according to a new study. "Even without major policy shift we will continue to see coal retire pretty rapidly,"

Good news all the way around! If people won't listen to reason or science, they will listen to their wallets.

Wallets + people's own observation of extreme natural events (and unnatural ones in relation to fracking!) are certainly working against the Administration's pro-fossil fuel policies! And, as you say, Freya, people listen to their wallets!

Agreed, but how are people on low incomes to afford the initial costs of setting up a solar system? However much I want to, I can't afford the $1.000's needed to install solar. There need to be government initiatives to help people transition to alternative energy.

Julie -
Costs are going down fast; community solar farms are becoming cost effective, as well. (A village near my home now not only covers all municipal electricity needs but by selling surplus to the main grid, has been able to reduce municipal taxes/ charges as well. Which helps villagers with low incomes.

It only needs a little shove by local, state & national governments to bring alternative energy into the forefront.

In California they are DEMANDING all new homes be built with SOLAR, but more expensive the the buyer...UNTIL, the GOV'T gets in and gives more $ incentives no one can afford to change. Now no one can afford to purchase. So we just have more people HOMELESS!
