And with NO feeling of guilt! How times have changed when we never heard of this.

How sad - those poor angels - well they are safe now - how dreadfully sad that mothers can do these things to their beautiful children!!!

June and Jaclin, this woman is obviously psychotic. This kind of sick shite has always gone on, we just hear about it more now because of the media.

And unfortunately, unless we do MUCH more and better social outreach to young single mothers living in poverty with too many kids, we'll keep on being horrified and saddened by acts like these.

Rochelle I am sorry you feel such angst - compassion is what is needed - no-one know what actually went on in this woman's mind - that does not mean that I condone what she did - but - I can still have compassion for her actions - and in my mind I can imagine the absolute terror and lack of understanding those poor girl were feeling at the realisation of what their mother was about to do to them. Peace.

I do feel compassion for her and her dead children. Look how young she looks! My point is that SOMEBODY had to have seen that she is mentally ill, but in this society we just don't "butt in". Then we hear things like this and wish that someone had intervened, even just to visit and make sure that her kids were OK. But, again, in this society, children are viewed as property so we don't "interfere" with the way someone treats their kids...

I feel so sorry for the childern but, I also feel sorry for this woman for she had to be in tourment or mental illiness. People have this every day. They slip through the cracks when they are crying out for help but no one is listening. Sweet Lord all to understand. Thank you Chrissy N. notes.

Wow I don't know what to say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The above comment have blown me away I am a person very strong in words. I am so pleased that this woman is now in custody that is all I can say. If found guilty of these murders and by the way they are murders I hope they throw the book at her if the lawyers try to use other solutions then she still has to be tried and go to a mental hospital for the rest of her life. Her 4 children have paid the price. God be with them all.

Something must be wrong in this world that pushes people to do such horrid acts. Social presure, stress, drugs, poverty, a bug in the air? And this is not an isolated case...a few days ago a man killed his 4 totlers....in Spain we had two or three similar cases in the near past...France, Belgium, Germany are also in the infamous list....maybe society is going too fast and some people can not follow...just drop .

Such a sad story. Makes you wonder where social services was before it came to such a tragic ending
for those children. The Mom must have needed mental help and will for the rest of her life. Thank You Chrissy N.

If this had been a man who had committed this crime most would be wanting him hung. Most are trying to blame the system just because she is a mother, a woman. It is hard to accept a mother doing such a crime as this. Yet she did. I hope she gets the book thrown at her. Four children will never have a chance at life because of her.
I don't believe she is so crazy she didn't understand the crimes she committed.

Linda, you make a very valid point. I post a story just the other day, of a Father who threw his children off of a bridge and everyone wanted to lynch him ... but being a Mother, seems to have a different impact on people. Probably because most of us are Mothers who could not imagine doing such a thing ... but she did do it and although they may have fallen through the cracks with regards to the welfare system, she does need to have equal punishment as the Father of the children thrown off of the bridge. Well said.

Linda and Chrissy, absolutely right. We have a real double standard here.

That story is sickening! What a monster! I hope she gets the death penalty. Why in gods name would anybody haver children if they are just going to hurt them?

Gee Jenna, did it ever occur to you that being faced with never ending poverty can send an otherwise normal individual right over the edge? It sounds like you need a lesson in compassion. Be thankful that you are not facing whatever sent this woman into this horrid decline. It seems to me that the system failed this family miserably and that these children might still be alive if the officials had done their job. Calling her a monster and crying for the death penalty tags you as the vigilante type. No offense, but prayers would seem like a better solution. God Bless and keep them and your family too, Jenna.......

Maggi, I understand what you are saying about poverty, but when do you draw the line at feeling compassion and being horrified. There are countless millions of people world wide who suffer greater poverty than this Mother has ever suffered and yet you don't see them slaughtering their children.

"When they stopped showing up, Richardson said the school immediately tried to contact the mother by mail and telephone. Officials finally went to the woman's home and the woman told a school official that she wanted to withdraw the children and home-school them.",

"The D.C. Child and Family Services agency tried last year to investigate a complaint about the family. But investigators could not make face-to-face contact with family members and believed they had moved to Maryland, agency spokeswoman Mindy Good said.

Norris West, a spokesman for the Maryland Department of Human Resources, said D.C. officials in June asked social services officials in Charles County, Md., to open a case for the family. However, county officials were not able to locate the family, and it is unclear whether they had actually moved to Charles County, West said."

I don't consider this falling through the cracks, I see this as deliberately choosing not to be helped. Again, would you feel the same way if it had been a man that had done this?
