A. Of 25 infectious diseases that have historically caused high mortality in human beings, many probably reached humans from domesticated animals. including diphtheria, influenza A, measles, mumps, pertussis, rotavirus, smallpox and tuberculosis.

Thanks Tom, I got Tertiary Lyme Disease from a deer when I lived in the country, since nothing was known about it , it took 3 years to diagnose it, but in that sage there was no cure and now it has thrown me into Lupus, I traded one autoimue disease for another and there still is nothing know about both of these diseases!

It doesn't surprise me.But that doesn't mean the domesticated animal is to blame.We as human beings should be hygienic with our animals.It has a little to do with hygiene.

Great article Tom, I will be checking out the article in NATURE magazine. I had read somewhere years ago about how many of the diseases that we have were transmitted by animals. The Nature article may shed new light on this.
