World Animal Day was started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence to highlight the plight of endangered species. Since then it has grown to encompass all kinds of animal life and is widely celebrated in countries throughout the world.

Thanks Tom i will be celebrating to the 'Max'.Hope others will the same 'cause a day to celebrate our precious ones will help create awareness to treat our animals humanely and stop abuse.Animals must be recognised as part our world and our survival and theirs are connected.

I agree with Janet every day should be World Animal Day....but if it takes one day to highlight an issue then so be it. These animals, this planet needs all the stand up and pay attention it can get.

Why can we not have a week of Animal Day that would be great. I hope all these things remain the same for ever and helps the children focus on the animals.

Please, no matter what other way you may be celebrating, will all kind people -- that's you, dear reader -- please consider making an extra donation to their favourite-- or any-- animal charity. It may be just a very small donation, but it will make a difference. You could consider giving to: www.internationalanimalrescue.com -- they are trying to raise enough money to create further bear sanctuaries so that ALL of the last "dancing" (ie. cruelly abused) bears can be rescued.

Thanks for all your comments and Happy Animal Day everyone! I celebrated with my dog Blue.

Update on Leigh and Sam posted by Rhonda in WOLF TRACKS:
"Sam has been found and is at the vet's office. From what I understand, she has been sedated and that are going to do x rays in the morning. I have no idea why that are waiting, but learned that Sam either can't walk or is having difficulty walking. If I learn more, I'll post. Let's all send positive energy toward Sam and Leigh."

I just want to add that this will be my BIGGEST holiday in the calender 'Happy Animal Day 4thOct. A day set aside to celebrate our cherished and most precious animals is most befitting to the animal kingdom..Imagine a world without animals- would be a very grim and dismal place ..Thanks Tom.
