Animal welfare groups are considering launching a court challenge to the Coalition's refusal to ban wild animals in British circuses. The Government broke a promise to abide by the result of a Commons debate in June, when MPs unanimously supported the ban

I cannot understand why the government have now refused to ban the animals from the circus.
Unless of course, it affects someone making money somewhere down the line!

I really don't see how forcing living beings to do tricks and live in cages is acceptable anyway.

Exotic animals, from the beginning of civilizations exalting humans, have always been brutalized for money.
Is that why that call animals brutes?

Thanks for sharing! Yes, - may 2012 be the year that we bring any- and every one 'in power' to book for their actions! We only have one planet and everything on it is critical for the survival of the whole!

What if someone chained them up, hung a bell on them, stuck them in a silly neon tutu, and only fed and watered them once a day? Think they'd get it then? But boy reduce their wage to their capabilities and just watch em whine.

My prayer for all the abused, tortured, exploited and murdered animals

Being British - I can share with you all some insights as to why this has come about. UK Coalition Govt is made up of 2 political Parties The Conservative (which our Prime Minister - David Cameron is the leader) and The Liberal Democrats (OUr Deputy PM Nick Clegg is the leader)

To even try and comprehend as to why this refusal to ban animals in circusses has come about, you need to understand the values and core ethos of the Conservative Party. As it's name suggests, the Conservatives fight hard to preserve traditional British values - the blood sport FOx Hunting is one of them. testing products on animals is another - as lets not forget. at the turn of the 19th Century it was predominatly Bristish sceintists who made several discoveries of diseases and it's cures. - These sceintist are Conservatve Party member/supporter themselves

David cameron - knows that if he bows down too much to Animal wlfare pressure - he is going against the Conservative Party grain and besides he enjoys Old English Country pursuits - Fox hunting.

Like many, many other Brits, I was devastated when the coalition was formed between two VERY contrasting parties as I knew that it could not work on the long run and Conservatives in party was bad news for animal welfare!

For as long as ultra conservative parties in governments, our environment, animal and human rights will suffer for the 'greater good' to reap profits and personal gains!

This present government is an absolutel disgrace. It is in the process of repealling the hunting ban, it has given the go-ahead for the cull of badgers, it is hoping to back the formation of maga factory-farming, it allows the sale of meat from unstunned animals without the public's knowledge and choice, and now it has retracted on the circus ban of wild animals. It is run by the in-bred, rich and greedy with thoughts only for themselves. Animal welfare is at the bottom of their list, they only believe in the rich getter richer and the poor can get 'stuffed' any way possible.
