The bite was provoked & they want to kill the dog?!?!? Why? The person who provoked the bite should be punished, not the dog. Don't blame an animal for the actions of humans. Give Junior back to his owner or a rescue organization. Do not kill him because of the actions of a human.

The pup should be returned to its owner immediately.

The person who provoked the bite should be in jail, not the pup.

Ty, Michelle.

Noted and signed. What a beautiful dog and sadly it looks like another case of breed discrimination. If this pup was provoked into biting then it shouldn't even be an issue.. I sincerely hope JUnior is released either to the rescue organization or to his owners. He shouldn't be put down for the stupidity of some human who provoked a dog into biting.

I suppose that comments repeating that the source has signed and noted, have some redeeming value:

The number here leads to the recognition that some humans understand that canids naturally bite.

We primates are extremely fearful, and being like other chimpanzees (as well as our more distant biting relatives the baboons), we tend to coalesce to kill anything that seems to threaten a member.

Dogs are pieces of wolf - pieces only, as humans unethically bred them for slave purposes - to do work, or to protect, or serve as comforters, making them captive for their lifetimes in an environment in which they are feared and not given the right to exist on their own.

Last night, a woman's first speech to me was again, after years of hearing the same canned question: "is that your dog?", referring to a wolf who after being rescued from captivity, abuse, starvation in a human-controlled world, for some reason chose against further abuse to be with me. Knowing this wolf and wolves as I do, I have always and continually been astonished at the arrogance inherent in such a question: "your", indeed.

Each life on earth, each cell, exists inviolably unique. We social organisms share many adaptations and to inject personal comment, JOYS that cannot be experienced by nonsocial, asocial, or other organisms in the same way. As I said, dogs are pieces of wolf. They still retain some aspects of the vast integrity which causes the wolf to fail to be sufficiently obsequious to become a slave. In this is their necessary use of the bite to make statements of what personal lines are not to be crossed.

As many of you say, the dog is innocent. Biting is a way of communication common in social animals, even including ourselves. A huge problem is that in most cultures, threats to humans are dealt with by elimination, liquidation, execution. This is so whenever a human perceiving itself as a victim can accomplish the extermination of that which bit.

Last, I want to remind all again, that the dog at their home or apartment, or in "doggy daycare" has bonded tothem, and is most unstressed when in their company. Loneliness is a huge factor in the lives of wolves, for instance, who are more obligate social than we. To "own" or "have" a dog is not a part-time thing, indulged for personal comfort. It is a relationship, which ethically requires reciprocal bond, or the bonding should not be accepted from the first.

That bond is for the lifetime of the one who lives the shortest; what occurs after is adapted to , is within the capacity of the survivor in both species. But the wolf, and so the dog, bonds permanently, once it chooses. The wolf goes looking at around age 3, analogous to about late teen to adult in the human. Although it is not cognitively mature until 5, a successful bond is necessary to completely develop all its skills, to become complete.
A carnivore is different from a primate in other ways as well, and if one demands to live with a carnivore, its methods of communications, its imperatives (which include killing) must be completely accepted. This concern is a human social rather than personal concern. Although you all prize the rule of human law, it does not take into account these others, who have been taken from their fierce and gentle birthright for slaves, since long before human societies under laws which deny full rights(and still deny the basic right of freedom from our revenge) to all other kinds of animals, existed.

Akitas are very loyal and gentle dogs, but they will protect themselves and their families. People do the same, do they not? Further, not only do I not think the authorities are following the spirit of the law, I don't think they are following the letter of it. The late news that legal counsel has been retained is heartening in this regard. The horror of the story of Lennox -- which I have reason to think is not yet done with -- exhausted some people, but since then it has become apparent that these cases are epidemic.

I am so sorry to say that the City of Fremont put Junior to sleep and did not even care. The rescue even hired The Lexus Group to get a stay of execution and the judge was a real piece of work and made a comment the " you mean if I moved I could not put my dog to sleep" She denied the request and he was put to sleep on Saturday morning. .
It was so terrible no one would listen to hundreds of calls begging for them to let rescue save him and give him his forever home. The had so many people that wanted to adopt him. I have attached a copy of the press release:
