Huge Impact Crater Discovered Beneath California !!

Oil exploration work in California's Central Valley region has uncovered possible space impact crater. The 5.5km-wide bowl is buried under shale sediments west of Stockton, in San Joaquin County, and is thought to be between 37 and 49 million years old.

Thanks for the post. I was involved in seismic in this area as an exploration geologist. I recall several sections where the geophysicist and I couldn't find basement reflections in the basin. Now I'm thinking Impact crater and it's implications on basement reflections. It's been a question in the back of my head since 1982.
