Police said the nets of seven out of 11 cages holding some 50 dolphins caught for the aquarium trade were found ripped off the coast of Taiji, Wakayama Prefecture, at around 7 a.m. on Sept. 28. However, no dolphins escaped, investigators said.

"It is awful and unforgivable," said a vice-president of a local fishermen's union at Taiji in response to the nets having been cut.

Yes, we agree! We think so too! Absolutely awful and unforgivable on your part! Your stubborn slaughter of these creatures galls and nauseates the world! How many signatures do you need to receive before you get the message that earth's citizens condemn what you do for profit every year in Taiji? Yes, we agree. Unforgivable!

Ah Michelle, thank you for posting this before I got all excited about the ones who managed to escape. After forcing myself to watch The Cove, I know more than I want to about the horror of this slaughter. I know firsthand about the curiosity of these intelligent creatures, about US, which makes them such easy prey for those who wish them harm. It is heartsickening what humans do to them, and yet they still help and trust us.

Good for them.

Those hunters should be ashamed of themselves. They don't even have the excuse that they need to eat them.

Noted. Read your 1st. article Michelle & commented. I think the Japanese should be tried for "Destruction of Life & Property". The killed dolphin cared for their lives and their property - their bodies. I already sent Charmaine a green star & would send another if I could. Sending you one also Michelle. Can't take the bad/sad news out on the messenger.

I cannot describe the feeling of despair I have when I read of this human barbarianism continuing against such amazing creatures, so I fulIy understand the drive to direct action. I just feel that it could give these non-humans more legitimacy in the eyes of the law- abiding, patriotic Japanese and turn the government agaist our just cause too. We need to bring them in on our side by winning over support in honourable ways as has been done, because as we know, honour is big in Japan, and gains respect and attention. Please just keep helping to support apply the pressure and the tide will go our rightious way. Strengthx

just did my first copy and paste! to read 2nd story. It said activists cut 7 of 11 pens holding 50 dolphins, but none escaped. I was so elated over first story. Felt like - wishing I liked beer! But--this could be Japanese PR- activists cutting nets don't make them look good. And I find it hard to believe that a dolphin caught in a net wouldn't escape if it found a n opening. Also not they blamed "European" activists; how would they know? - and they wouldn't want world to think any **Japanese** were against it. Boycotting might help; esp. cars.

WE NEED TO GET OUT THERE AND CUT THOSE FISHERMEN, I MEAN NETS.... WE NEED MORE RESCUERS OR GROUPS TO FREE ALL THESE ENDANGERED SPECIES/ANIMALS, I SAY WE TAKE ALL THE SOLDIERS AND NAVY SEALS, PUT THEM ON SPECIAL DUTY TO SET THEM FREE, AND STOP THE SLAUGHTERS IN THE ANIMAL KINGDOM.
WE NEED A NEW SOLUTION TO STOP THESE RUTHLESS SLAUGHTERS! NOW!
