So is anyone surprised? Since when has truth ever gotten in the way of ridiculous claims by people like Angle, O’Donnell or Palin to just name a few?

or its just Sharron Angle is just dumb and extreme. Shs is so extreme that the top Republican State Senator of Nevada just endorsed Harry Reid. He went as far as saying she will get nothing accomplished in Congress and that her positions are so extreme she wont even work with Republicans. She is notorious for not working along the legislative process in her own state assembly. What makes her move to the halls of Congress a wise one for the people of Nevada?

This is imbecilic - a person who doesn't bother to check facts especially 'facts' as unfactual as these - does not deserve to have a position of any power at all. The recording and the CNN video are facts which are undebatable.

Two minor details:
1...This is a recording of what she actually said, not a smear!
2... You live in Canada!

I feel sad for what will happen if a bunch of these Tea Party folks get elected..

Anyone remember when a bunch of KKK folks got elected to Congress, etc? Millions marched in the streets in support of them... In the US, ANYTHING is possible. With time, people come to their senses and see the stupidity of their votes or actions, and go back to the middle.

Extremes are not impossible, though unusual. We may even get a dictator in the US, just to see what that extreme is like.. .

We may even see Sarah Palin elected as Prez.. When the US experiences what that is like, maybe it will be like a bath of VERY ICY cold water, and they will wake up...

Don't be too quick to laugh just yet.

There already are Muslim sharia law *courts* in Britain, undermining the secular judicial and law enforcement system.

Yes, you read that correctly.

They can decide some civil cases and want to decide criminal cases, too - in addition to, of course, enforcing social customs in "their" communities. That means everyone in that community, muslim or not, would also be subject to such enforcement (hello subjegation!)

LOL, America has its own brand of local 'Talibans' too. She is jumping on the bandwagon and exploiting the 'FEAR' factor(islamophobia) to get her a place..... She falsely believes the american people are stupid enough to be manipulated by her own personal BASELESS FEARS and HATRED of Islam.

Many areas of law have been taken over by corporate arbitration involving work, credit, loans, health care, insurance and other issues. The use of a service of any kind often means you agree to these corporate kangaroo courts to resolve any disputes you have with the company involved. This is much more dangerous because ANY group with a handful of cash can seize effective control of a corporation and start dispensing their own brand of justice. Nut jobs like Angle spread goofy crap about Muslims that serves to hide the massive corporate power grab. We now tolerate single corporations that are so large that if it fails the economy crashes. Corporations that big take on high risk because they know if they lose the bet, the taxpayer will cover their losses and never share in the gains.

There are many more ACTUAL jurisdictions under a form of "sharia" law... cities, town, counties and even states, where secula, Constitutional law is only enforced when it coincides with local CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALIST doctrine. Neither is any better than the other.

The city may be under any kind of law since ti exists only in her mind. Does this woman write her own material? No one seems to be fact checking anything she says. No political professional or professional writer would have made that mistake.

If she acts like this when the whole world is watching what would she do in the Senate? The vast majority of what happens in Congress goes on behind closed doors. I cannot imagine six years of this woman having secret holds and earmarks.

It's time to start laughing to blow the fear mongering out of the water in this country! Sheesh! I grew up with the "there's a red (communist) under everyone's bed!" mentality. This crap is reminiscent of Joe McCarthy, and people are just buying into it! Kudos to my friend, Nyack, who wrote: "laughing out loud..WTF??" Right on, hon!

Northern, Ms. Angle is running for a very important federal office. She will be making decisions concerning national security, the environment, the budget, foreign policy and other issues. When she exaggerates the truth - time and again - during a campaign she should be held responsible. After all.....I don't want her to continue talking nonsense once she gets to Washington.

Good question, Marilyn. Perhaps they are. And, another good one you present, Melva. Ding-A-Lings; I like that term; has quite a hilarious ring to it. It's absolutely great to add much needed levity to this whole discussion. The problem is that there is TOO LITTLE LEVITY in public discourse, especially in politics. The only places you'll find it is the comedy circuit or on late night shows.

As far as sending Sharron Angle to Alaska with O'Donnell and Palin from Palin's backyard, we could also add Joe Miller, Don Pallacino, and a few others could join them for the Russia watch. Perhaps, they could be whacky enough to make America's Funniest Home Videos. LOL!

It's a little hard to understand the audio, so I found an actual transcript of Angle's remarks:

"We're talking about a militant terrorist situation, which I believe it isn't a widespread thing, but it is enough that we need to address, and we have been addressing it."

"My thoughts are these, first of all, Dearborn, Michigan, and Frankford, Texas, are on American soil, and under constitutional law. Not Sharia law. And I don't know how that happened in the United States," she said. "It seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong with allowing a foreign system of law to even take hold in any municipality or government situation in our United States."

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2010/10/sharron-angle-claims-dearborn-michigan-ruled-by-sharia-law/64295/

I really don't think she's very bright.

A lie is better than the truth if people believe it, particularly when it is something that they want to believe to further their own agenda. And in this case Angle, Paul, Miller, O'Donnell and 74 other Tea Bagged Repugnicans on various state ballots are campaigning on platforms to enforce their own particular/peculiar Christian Sharia on to all Americans against their will and Constitutionally guaranteed freedom of religion in the form of legislated anti-abortion that also forces the victims of rape and incest to carry any resulting pregnancy to term. The Repugnican-Tea bagged-Corporate-Christian Taliban of America Alliance is ramping up the culture war to make all who do not chose to believe as they have chosen to believe or diverge from their religious ideology criminals under the laws of the United States, which is a perfect fit by definition of Christian Sharia, or as it was originally known the Inquisitions, and we all know just how well that turned out for anyone who did not toe the church/party line or did not fit in.

And you had better be more mad and afraid than sad about this more out in the open, but hardly new, crop of Christian Taliban political jihadi as there are already plenty of them in high political office or influence. Consider the number of 'Family' members in Congress particularly the Senate, mostly Repug, Cornyn, Brownback, Ensign et al. The Family founded and still runs the National Prayer Breakfast while holding Mao, Stalin, Hitler, and Pol Pot as their political role models, were one of the major forces behind the 'Kill the Gays Bill' in Uganda where it 'just happens' that the President of Uganda, the author of the Bill and a large number of the ruling political party are Family members. There is also the alliance member ITN International Transformation Network, Aiona running for Gov. of Hawaii, and most likely his 'Catholic' opponent are ITNites, as well as the favored Wasilla Church of Palin and her pet witch hunting Pastor, and the First Lady of Uganda are members or affiliates. And the ITNites openly advocate for the 'extermination of political opponents like the vermin they are' as well as 'cleansing the Earth of all those that they consider sinners so that the Transformation/Second Coming can occur as their Jesus/God will evidently have nothing to do with man or earth until it has been purged clean first. View them as loony, fringe, stupid what ever you wish BUT YOU HAD BETTER TAKE THEM FOR THE SERIOUS DANGEROUS THREAT THAT THEY ARE TO AMERICA AS WE KNOW IT AND GET OFF YOUR BUTS AND VOTE AGAINST THEM OR KISS YOUR CIVIL RIGHTS AND LIBERTIES GOOD-BYE!

Personally I find this sort of thing quite perplexing. It seems sometimes that, when you read of people behaving in this way and talking out of somewhere that is not their mouth, you begin to wonder if at any moment a white rabbit is going to run past in an agitated manner muttering "I'm late! I,m late! ' and you have fallen down a large hole and landed in Wonderland! Or is it must me that is crazy?

I'd be more worried about the neo nazi gated communities with their ridiculous laws and places where the staff are treated like slaves with no human rights. The USA has a dismal record on human rights however much the GOP rant on about it being a Christian country. It's nothing of the sort.

So many people here foaming over her political alignment and not over the real issue, and that is sharia (and other religious) formal or informal courts and systems getting established in places which are subject to secular law, such as GREAT BRITIAN, for example.

Do anyone here have the slightest clue what that means? You may not like Ms. Angle, but she isn't entirely wrong. Just take a look at the article in UK's The Times that I posted - the article is from 2008 and the Secretary General is clearly expressing concern that these relgious institutions are steadily taking over civil and criminal judicial and law enforcement problem, and yet NONE of you has a problem with that?

Really???? If you think this cannot happen in the USA, think again. In a nation that is being strong-armed into allowing MILLIONS of people to emmigrate en masse and is being bullied by other nations into simply accepting this and being called names when any attempt to control it is put in place, anything - including communities with sharia law - is possible. Why are you burying your heads in the sand and accepting the party line that anyone who questions this trend is somehow a "racist" or whatever? Ms. Angle herself aside (I don't know much about her, personally), the *issue* she is talking about is NOT without merit and fact. If sharia law is taking hold in one of America's oldest and closest related nations, GREAT BRITIAN, shouldn't that give you at least pause to think about WHY it is happening there and what that means for Americans? Anyone like visiting the UK? Yes? Want to keep going there? If sharia law starts to become more prevalent, you don't think Americans won't have problems there? They will.

More to the point, would any of you really want to live in a theocracy or anything close to that, regardless of which religion is in power? The fact that any religious cleric could have a say in a civil or criminal proceeding SHOULD be duly frightening to anyone here - it certainly is to me. I thought that the USA left to the annuls of history the time era when relgions controlled governments and decided people's lives. Apparently not. Apparently it's on the rise again and while this political candidate might be inaccurate as to where, she's not inaccurate as to its progress in western nations.

Be warned!

I've been reading ALL the comments, even going back when I wasn't sure what someone wrote. One comment is most important- don't know what would be best word really- was made by Mary P., many comments back. She said that Angle "FALSELY" believes that most Americans are stupid. I disagree. The very fact that she has gotten this far proves that Angle KNOWS that most Americans are stupid. I agree with Nyack Clancy's "laughing out loud" , but Angle is not stupid, she's playing to a particular audience. An audience that will not look up Dearborn, Texas. And if enough of these stupid people vote for her, God help us.

I think we need to encourage the Tea Party candidates to speak as often and on as many public media sources as possible. Every time they open their mouths lies, inaccuracies or just plain stupidity comes out. Even though only the dumbest of the dumb think they're anything but escaped mental patients, sooner or later even they're bound to see these clowns for what they really are.

It's becoming abundently clear, that it honestly, doesn't matter what Ms. Angle says. She belongs to the racist Tea Party Republicans and those that support her, are haters of President Obama. So, she preaches to the choir what she wants, when she wants and how often she wants, anything, because the content is unimportant. The more absurd she sounds, the better the disciples like it.

I love when the Tea Party Republicans say, that they want their country back - back from where, where did it go? They are really saying, that they want things to go back to the way they used to be, before the Civil War. They want the old white South, all over the country - Womens rights, gone, African American rights, gone, Homosexual rights, gone.

Now, wouldn't that be wonderful?

Rooibos - I do not think that anyone is calling Angle a racist. What people are saying is that she is essentially LYING about these two towns being under sharia law in order to frighten people.

Unlike the UK, the US has in its Constitution guarantees that are supposed to keep religion and government separate. The claim that someone can invoke their own right of religious freedom in order to deny someone else their rights does not hold up under US law, although there are factions in the US who are pushing for this (the far religious right, of which Angle is a representative). I am not saying that it cannot happen in the US, as I do support a rigorous defense of the aforementioned Establishment Clause of the First Amendment (the bit in the Constitution keeping religion and government separate). Right now, in the US, the greatest threat to these Constitutional protections is coming from the evangelical christian far right (again, which Angle represents). The remedy for either these christian dominionists or sharia law is the same - vigorously uphold the Establishment Clause and support individual (not group) civil liberties.

Here is a video on sharia law in Frankford, Texas:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAHjTWWKqLo

This is an area where I grew up, and my roots in that area go back several generations. I can speak from first hand knowledge that sharia law has not taken hold there. This part of the North Dallas area is uber rich, very Republican, and is part of Dick Armey's district when he was in Congress. Interesting coincidence, don't you think?

My two above post were to maybe help some readers to understand where Sharron Angle gets her thoughts from..other than out of her own.....behind :-) in general. Poor women needs a family who cares enought to see to it that she gets the mental professional help that she obviously needs, Guess even her family doesn't care enough about her to listen to her rantings of lunacy to know just how far gone her mind really is.

Are the people of Nevada listening??? Aren't they aware of how really stupid she sounds? Do they really want this "person" representing them? If she wins they'll only have themselves to blame. All the rest of us will suffer. Comedians will have material for years to come. Help keep this woman OUT of office. Any office.
