I know it may seem a novel idea to people like McCain and Palin, but it would be worthwhile actually reading Khalidi's book on the Palestinian struggle for statehood.

Juan Cole defends Rashid Khalidi against McCain allegations:

"I know it may seem a novel idea to people like McCain and Palin, but it would be worthwhile actually reading Khalidi’s book on the Palestinian struggle for statehood. (I urge bloggers interested in this issue to link to his book, which the American reading public should know).

At the least, read a whole essay Khalidi has written.

Far from being a knee-jerk nationalist, Khalidi has been critical of the decisions of the Palestinian leadership at key junctures in modern history.

Noted, thanks Blue.
I don't see any reason that Palestine cannot be an independent statehhood. No one complained when Israel was made a state in 1948, but Israel will not recognize Palestine. If you look an ancient map of Israel dating back to when Jesus was a child you will notice that Palestine was once part of Israel, but the 1967 Arab Israeli War changed all of that. And Jesus was born in Palestine, even if the relligious right continues to deny this fact. Although Jesus was a devout Jew, his mission was not to start a new religion, but rather His mission was purely political. And the Jews do not recognize Jesus as their Lord and Saviour as many other countries do. This whole mess with Israel and Palestine can end overnight if Israel will accept Palestine as a statehood, and leave them alone. However, the Zionist Jews will not allow this to happen. They fight against it everday. But what most people don't know is that the Zionist Jews are in the minority, and only a few have full control over the rest of the western world.

Stephen, it's always been apparent that McCain's answer to conflict is to bomb the heck out of the country that doesn't agree with NeoCON/RepubliCON world domination ... it's time for the U$A to teach its cildren the value of diplomacy rather than subjecting our young people to a culture that only teaches them how to kill othes and steal the resources of other countries invaded as a result of our greed.

In Driftglass' continuing series, Understanding the Right #3: "And
with the Right's "Loyalty Uber Alles" centrifuge now kicking in the
afterburners, if you think that the last eight years were twisted, you
ain't seen nuthin' yet. Because with another Aggrieved White
Conservative myth bolted into place, the entire Hatespeech
Establishment will be thrown into high gear, ranting to the Pig People
24/7 that Barack Hussein Obama isn't really the legitimate President." (I particularly liked the term "Elder Hatesman". We needed that one.)

I noticed someone saying something about how, despite his other sleazy
campaign tactics, John McCain should be "commended" for not having used
Rev. Wright - which struck me as being akin to saying I should be
commended for not having robbed a liquor store - but it may be time to
admit that no matter how hard you scrape, those "honorable" McCain
moments don't fly.
