Julia R.’s comment for Lennox

Please take note and take action! Lennox's final appeal is looming. He just turned seven on April 1 and yet even though he has done nothing he remains locked up, isolated from his family and every one. Please take action on Twitter as part of the free Lennox campaign if you haven't already done so. I pray that a miracle will happen to free this dog who has so long been separated from his family!
Also please email the following people asking them to please release Lennox as he has done nothing but been a very faithful companion to his family and a therapy dog for a child who has had her whole world fall apart as a result of Lennox being taken away from her without cause. Lennox's family has had to endure this forced separation for 682 days!

Letters duly written, Julia. I would encourage people to use the link above, where the email addresses of Belfast officials are available and need only a click, and to write in particular to the Chief Executive of Belfast. I concluded my letter to the CE by emphasizing he global reach of this story and the effect of Lennox's death, should it be, on perceptions of Belfast and Ulster. I didn't spell it out, but I was, of course, hinting at the matter of tourist money. I made the same point in my letter to the BBC, though in that case I empasized more the effect on the family, the assininity of the law, and the global reach. I also suggested in parentheses that Care2 might be worth their attention at some point -- almost 19 million people doing good things via one website?? Not a bad story to tell. Anyway, let us hope for the best.

Even great criminals have had their death sentences commuted to life sentence....Lennox deserves better than that. This is not just a mere fight for Lennox's is a fight to prove that as humans we do not condone inhuman acts against defenseless animals.....

How heartless can they get? This dog has done nothing but be a good theraphy dog for a child and is guilty only of being a Pit Bull or looking like one! Are they insane. I pray God hears all our prayers and saves this dog from death. I can imagine how he is being treated, caged up for over 600 days with people who don't care and his family unable to see him. Thats just horrible. Will send letters thru the link. If I had the money I would not go to that country.I hope Lennox goes home to his family.

I have been trying for over an hour to open this link and it says to try back later. I will keep trying until I can
sign that petition link. I think this whole situation stinks. Those people are cruel, that dog is not even kept in a clean kennel, nor did I see a food or water dish. Some jerk called Ribtickler says, its costing the taxpayers and he should be put down, he is just a dog. Well guess what jerk off dog spelled backwards is GOD. He is a beloved pet that bothered no one. Send him HOME to his family!!!

This breed is banned in Ontario, Canada, where I live, by an attorney general who seemingly knows nothing about the animal, and simply reacted to public pressure. I agree with the person who indicated that any dog's behaviour depends on the way it has been treated by humans. This breed can be very loyal and lovable, depending also on the way it has been trained. Lennox does not deserve to be destroyedd, for the mere fact that he appears aggressive.

The family is to blame here. Lennox has been repeatedly offered sanctuary by EGAR, who was willing to take him in from the very beginning. Instead, the family chose to drag this nonsense out FOR YEARS and subject this poor, innocent creature to protracted and inhumane incarceration in a dark, filthy cell and an almost certain death. For everyone here who doesn't know the whole story, many thousands of us across the globe BEGGED the family to provide Lennox with a life of happiness and health at EGAR, an animal rescue in Southern Ireland who offered to rescue Lennox from the get-go. They have staunchly refused. His death will squarely fall on their shoulders. They've known from day one they would not....could not win this fight. And Lennox will pay the ultimate price. Shameful, horrific. True.

Dear Michelle,

We all know of your great love for animals and appreciate all of your efforts in trying to improve the welfare of so many. But I would like to say this that I had read from a reputable source (I believe it was the Save Lennox campaign website) that the family had offered to the very intransigent judge of this case that they were open to Lennox going to a rescue group outside of Ireland and that even a friend of a dog training celebrity (Victoria Stillwell) had offered to give a home to Lennox but the judge flatly refused this. There are many people that unfortunately make statements without really knowing what all the legal hurdles are and opinions not always backed up by fact can spread quickly on the internet. I read that Lennox’s family (and I really do believe that they truly love Lennox) would rather see Lennox alive than dead and see him in a much better situation than he is currently in. I don't think that with the way those judges have acted ( without showing any capacity to think openly about this issue) that they would have even entertained that as an option because they think Lennox is from a dangerous breed and they won’t even allow Lennox to go outside his cell or accept visits from his family). We all must focus on Lennox right now. If we get people thinking that the Barnes are bad people, then letters that might help Lennox may not get written and this could cause an impediment in helping him. Then how would we feel? What would that accomplish? It certainly wouldn’t help us free Lennox.
The situation, currently being as it is, we must act on. And the only way, now to help Lennox is by many people writing to the Belfast city council members and media outlets. I’m sure that you don’t mean to suggest that we just give up. Because then we will have failed Lennox! I think we all need to get on the same page at this point in time, if we really want to help Lennox, then we must get involved with this last great effort to save him.

Email sent and petition signed. Forwarded to friends. This is horrible. We should not judge anyone, including animals, just because of their appearance and pit bulls are not born bad, it is just a bad owner!

When some so called dangerous dogs get an exemption and are released back to their families, they often are in terrible condition. I dread to think what condition Lennox is in after 2 years in some 'facility' and I wonder if this is the reason the council won't give in.

I hope Lennox will be free and I also hope that the family are going to sue the pants of Belfast Council, there is a good firm of lawyers who could take these bastards on.

Please note current update on Lennox below from the Huffington Post and if you haven't yet sent emails to the Belfast City Council urging them to finally release Lennox so that he can go home to his family, please do so now as Lennox's final date for an appeal has been set for May 24, 2012. You will find all the addresses here of the Belfast City Council at this link Another important official to send letters asking to please free Lennox whose done nothing and so that he can be returned to the family who loves him is the Mayor of Belfast at

Hopefully the information in this article will clear up any misunderstanding by some that the Barnes are opposed to another family adopting Lennox in the Republic of Ireland to get him out of this very inhumane situation in which he has been locked up in a tiny cell for almost 2 years! In fact, as this article clearly states, A final appeal to high court is set for May 24. "If it is ruled that Lennox cannot be returned to his family, the defense is asking at least to allow a friendly party in the Republic of Ireland (where there is no breed specific legislation) to adopt him."

This most recent update is from America’s Huffington Post Feature Lennox Article at

"A final appeal to high court is set for May 24. If it is ruled that Lennox cannot be returned to his family, the defense is asking at least to allow a friendly party in the Republic of Ireland (where there is no breed specific legislation) to adopt him."

"Meanwhile, somewhere in Belfast, a family’s beloved pet – a dog who has never spent so much as a day in a boarding kennel — remains locked in a small dank cell surrounded by sawdust and feces, a victim of misused policy and a few humans who would rather see him put to death than admit a mistake. Now, that’s a crime."
