Please sign her petition! Today Education Examiner received a letter and a petition authored by a friend of student Kiera Wilmot, a 16 year-old who is facing two felony charges for a simple high school science experiment gone awry.

S&N. This is absolutely ridiculous. She was doing a science project and could have made some real progress in some area. Thank you.

This sets a precedent much more dangerous than any simple science experiment!

Is it because she is African-American? What if a white student had done this? Doesn't matter - the charges are way out of line with her actions. Granted, she should have been more careful - but that is no reason to make Mount Everest out of an anthill!

Noted. Couldn't sign; weird site, kept putting an ad on instead of the two petition links that I clicked on. Fortunately, I was able to sign two other petitions for this girl on other sites. Florida, Florida......oy veh.....

Signed every petition I could find. This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard in my life and that's saying a whole lot. The way they are making mountains out of molehills and punishing her over a failed science experiment is unbelievable. I too have been wondering if she's being punished because she is a minority female that shows promise. She's been a good student, doesn't have a disciplinary record (until now) and had no malicious intent yet she's being treated this way and on the way to having her life ruined just because people overreacted. Sure school administrators in schools across the nation can't or won't do anything about school violence, bullying, low test scores, high dropout rates, teacher burnout, outdated resources, but a failed science experiment is the big issue of the school year. Give me a break! Thanks Jane.

Hi Robert: My gut tells me that the noise made a security guard pee his pants, and he had to do his DUTY...

I think it's about time to shut down schools, if this is the situation, why claim you want to E-D-U-C-A-T-E when what you really want is to incarcerate.

Mix a couple of chemicals together in a water bottle that goes POP!, emits some smoke--go to prison as a "terrorist." Own a fertilizer plant that blows up and kills people—what happens? Apparently nothing. Homeland Security: Doing A Great Job Since 9/11.

How many times does this have to go around before the officials come to their senses? This is absolutely long past disgusting; it is cruel and totally unnecessary. This girl made a little mistake and the whole school's in an uproar and thinks nothing of ruining her life. What in heaven's name is WRONG with people that they would put this girl in a category of terrorist? She is innocent, but THEY ought to be thrown out on their ear. Why is it that certain people are so damned evil and cruel to others? Well. Probably because evil and cruelty are the norm these days?

Ridiculous, this was an accident and this student should not be treated like a terrorist, ruining her future attempts to attend college and or university.
