El Camino del Diablo âEUR" the Highway of the Devil was once for Spanish conquistadors a 250-mile link between the northwestern frontier of their Mexican Empire and their colonies of California.

The highway begins began at Caborca, in Mexico’s state of Sonora. and extends north-northwest across the desert to what is today the United States/Mexican border. It turns west-northwest and follows the border through a phantasmagoric landscape of organ pipe cactus, desert flats, drifting sand dunes, ancient lava flows and searing summer heat, passing through the southern edges of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge, and the Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range. Marked by graves and headstones, it reaches a merciful end at Yuma, Arizona.

The road passes through areas of the world which have suffered some of the worst exploitations of colonialism possible....and still see a sad war on people at the border.

Sad but so true....but when traveling the Devil's Highway, you will also see resilient land and tough uniquely evolved flora....and wildlife that survives and thrives almost without basics of survival like "water". The land crosses by the Devil's Highway has 2 inches of rain a year.

Travel along this road on this US Holiday weekend and find so many reasons for gratitude for where you live and learn how touch Mother Nature can be.

Please note, comment, and forward.
