Meet Steve Lowes, a farmer who raises sustainable coral for sale to aquarium supply companies and pet stores. His efforts, and those of others who do the same, are putting a dent in the amount of coral stolen from endangered living reefs.

This technology and knowledge is something that needs to be expanded and shared if the world's endangered living reefs are to survive man's poaching.

TY Cate for bringing this news forward my friend. Totally noted hon.

These "farmers" hopefully are cultivating their coral from tanks, and not getting them illegally. I pray this is an answer so that people stop the illegal poaching, as we need our oceans coral reefs! It sounds good, interesting too.

The people that are "stealing" from the coral reefs are theives! We must not deplete our coral reefs!

Walk in peace & love,

Great our coral reefs are suffering enough just from harmful changes in the ocean conditions.

While a friend was staying with me, I had a saltwater tank with corals, live rock and gorgeous fish in my living room. It's amazing how beautiful these life forms are !

Thanks ...If this makes even a dent in changing what is taken from coral reefs it will be worth it.

thank you for sharing, so many people take the coral out of the oceans when they know they are not suppose to. This gives them an alternative, to have a piece of beauty without taking away from nature.

All it takes is one man with an idea like
this to make a very big difference!
God and Goddess Bless this man for
what he's doing, and I sure hope this
catches on!
Thanks, Cate! :-))

Noted. Indeed, it will be wonderful if others pick up this practice. The endangerment to our coral reefs does not get as much press and proactive campaigning as others causes, but it should...and I will redouble my efforts in that direction. Thank you, Cate!

Am I the only one that read that Cate is losing her job?? Oh, no! I know none of us LOVE our employer/place of work/boss (well, unless you're fooling around...) but to be laid off is just the worst, and my thoughts are with you. About this post, all I can say is, incredible. This man really thinks outside the box! Kudos. Thanks, Ombretta.

Cate I know your difficulties with your job. Many of us on Care2 love you very much for all you do for us like bringing these heart warming stories to us. I wish there was more we could do for you but you sound as though you have a thoroughly nasty boss who probably pulls the wingss off flies for kicks...she certainly knows how to kick you when you are trying to get over the devastation of recent events.

Cate I want folk on this caring network to know how much you have suffered at the hand of this cruel and vindictive person...and yet you still send us greeting cards, you still encourage us with these do so much for us...unfailing in the love you show us. Please know the love and high regard that we hold for you on here...I know and hope I am speaking on behalf of all your readers.

Stick in there've got us all right there beside I have told you several times...we are only a screen away any time you need encouraging; just ask. Here's another dollop of courage fronm the Land of the Brave...with all my love. David

Hey Cate, lets "raise" some coral, and market "pet corals", or is that already done? Noted, and thank you.

Noted, and also for Cate, There will someday be a reason for what is happening at this time. Yes I know, does not help now, but you are above the situation and you will persevere, and you will find something you love to do as well.
