Friday, May 22nd 2009, 9.59 am. I spoke to the Egyptian Trade Commissioner about half an hour ago and after telling me that we should all mind our own business, he stated that the cull was completed and hung up.

I will sign, thank you Lyn for forwarding and Linda for putting this out..
I do not understand though why there are pigs in the middle east.
Who would put a animal in this situation knowing it is against muslim

Birdie, there are pigs in Egypt because of a very large Coptic Christian Community and they have raised pigs since time immemorial. Egypt was never, what one can call a "muslim ruled country" but secular in nature. Since the fanaticism has spilled over into Egypt, they have been looking into eradicating pigs.

However, I called the Egyptian Trade Commissioner back later in the day to chide him for his rudeness earlier in the morning and after apologising, he told me, that proper places would be built for the rearing of pigs outside the city limits and new breeding pigs would be re-introduced for the Copts and other non-muslim communities. How much of this is true, I have no idea. When I asked him why the cullers were doing it in such a cruel way, he would not be drawn into further discussion on the subject and ended the conversation.

Thank you for explaining this to me.
I did not know this, I was under the impression that this was recent activity.
I am glad I asked now.
I am impressed how far you took this issue by calling the Egyptian Trade Commision.
