Ish!! Could never stand going to The Beachcomber in SC with my parents and my God-parents. Watching the waiter pick out a lobster and listening to what was going to happen to it made my little 9 year-old muscles stiffen up. But the 'shrimp dip' was so good with crackers!! They just called it that; no shrimps were actually in the dip. Thnx Jill!

Thank you Jill for sharing this wonderful news with all of us. Most seafood lovers are so very ignorant to the immense sufferings of any crustaceans and their hellish experience in the soup pot has been trivialised - but that heavans and ALL those compassionate people responsible for this ban of course have at last materialised.

Germany's actions should be made examplary for all restauranteurs to follow.

The pain of Lobsters/ Crabs and other crustaceans on the road to our table is not some fanciful concoction; it is excruciatingly real. Meeting their end by being cooked in water is like being sent to a boiling hell. Their desperate but doomed efforts to crawl or jump out betray the unbearable pain they experience. Finally they give their life in sorrow as they turn bright red. What a painful end!

Here is a well known Buddhist story which has been etched in my memory forever

When a scholar named Chou Yu was cooking some eel to eat, he noticed the one of the eels bending in its body such that its head and tail were still in the boiling point liquid, but its body arched upward above the soup. It did not fall completely in until finally dying. Chou Yu found the occurrence a strange one, pulled out the eel, and cut it open. He found thousands of eggs inside. The eel had arched its belly out of the hot soup to protect its offspring. He cried at the sight, sighed with emotion, and swore never to eat eel.

This story tells us that the myriad living creatures are not without feeling and intelligence.
