It is only arrogant egos that prevent many of us from seeing this truth. Thank you very much for posting Julie.
Here is a Nature of Things Documentary called "A Murder of Crows" that gives amazing insight into the intelligence of this very social bird:

The dignity of the magpie wake was very moving. I liked the way the article ended on a high note with the rescued whale.

Always good to see more & more articles like this. Much the same evidence can be read in "When Elephants Weep," by Jeffrey M. Masson & Susan McCarthy - a classic.

Animals have deeper and purer emotions than many a human walking this earth!!!!! And to top it all, they have no egos or 'under-handed' traits - they show what they FEEL. I've never come across a hypocrite in the animal kingdom yet!!

PROOF AGAIN, that living beings have "SOUL" and PURPOSE!!! We are all so connected!...cause and effect! (Thanks Julie P. for the heads-up on this article!)

Thanks for the article. Who ever thought animals weren't capable of emotion and love? that's silly... of course they have feelings, too.

Did anyone also check out "Yes!" magazine's video on another linked page?

http://www.yesmagazine.org/issues/can-animals-save-us

This question echos what I'VE been saying for ages now - not only CAN they save us, but I believe they will play THE MOST pivotal part in our 'salvation' and evolution...if humancruel will only finally decide to LISTEN to and honour them.

Isn't this the basis for protecting the animals of the world? Aside from their inability to speak, destroy the world, create hate,we share the planet with them.

Noted. Wonderful article. Animals are so connected to each other & share their emotions far more than the human race does. We should all take a lesson from them

Thank you Julie, those are lovely stories. Our specie, the homo sapiens, could certainly learn compassion, appreciation, conservation, and cooperation from other species. Did you know that homo sapiens means "wise man"? Well, with all the natural and social destruction that humans do, one wonders who on earth gave exactly that name to our specie? It must be called a paradox!

I hope the people who think animals are to be abused and eaten by us will finally realise this!
Thank you for sharing!

This article is beautiful! I was brought up to think humans are the high point of creation/evolution (whichever you prefer). I have had to question whether we undermine our self appointed or God given right to that position by what I have seen in animals. I have seen loyallty, dignity, bravery and selflessness in animals that makes a mockery of them 'existing' as creatures merely driven by instinct. I have no wish to offend anyone's religious views but if we are the high point of creation then our sense of responsibility to animals should make us behave in a far more compassionate way towards them. That can only be right?

Great article. I also have seen the entire range of emotions described herein by a variety of sentient beings. How much clearer can it be that to intentionally inflict pain upon any is not acceptable?

Thanks Julie for this beautiful article. There is no question about whether animals can feel or have any emotion....the only problem is us, human, who refuse to see it.
