Allowing the Seminole Tribe to expand a rock mine in Broward County would further threaten the endangered Florida panther, an environmental group said.

A tough call - the tribe needs what they need, and are making a fair offer, but the panthers whose territory would be destroyed may not make it safely to the new area planned. Perhaps the tribe could get a grant to supply the needed rock without destroying the wetlands?

Hard choice here, the Native Americans deserve to freely choose how to use their lands. Thank you, Simone, for this story. The situation will be hard to resolve.

I agree that the Native Americans have every right to use their land how they wish but I agree with Sylvia over what might happen even if an alternative area is offered. These rare animals need protection and this is being acknowledged.

My take on this is that the Seminoles should be offered an alternative place to mine from or to buy at a reduced price and this could be paid for by a subsidy to making the suggested area into a nature reserve. I'm sure that there would be sufficeient money to cover such a small area from one of the Government pots.
