Driving under the influence is a problem across the United States. There are many DUI penelties in place that focus on curbing drunk drivers: jail time, fines, license suspension and more.

It happens all around the world. In the UK many of our police cars have a device that checks the number plate of a car to a central database which checks to see if the registered owner has insurance and a licence.

Those guilty of DUI are preternaturally gifted when it comes to evading the consequences of their actions--but let's face it, most states make it REALLY easy to do so. Let's make it considerably more difficult for them.

Tougher laws and actions are needed all over the world! In Australia it has become increasingly harder to get away with it......but still more needs to be done. It's also the people who DUI who need to stop and think and give more care and thought to their actions. But nothing beats killing another human being to sober the person up (even though it shouldn't be this way in the first place).

Signed thank you Simone and Tonya.

Can you remember the sign it's here in Victoria Simone? I thought you weren't allowed to have any alcohol in you whilst driving, Mind you it would be a darn good idea for Australia and America wouldn't it? But I've got something in my mind of NO TOLERANCE what so ever. The booze busses will be out tonight though, I'm glad I'm staying at home tonight. I loved the story that was with the petition as well as I read them first before I sign, don't know whether you agree.. I'll do another story of yours and Micks after answering the phone and computer has cooled down.

I know it is a cliche but if one family can be spared the heartache of losing a loved one to an act of selfishness like driving under the influence, it's well worth it. Thanks to all in support of this.

There is no excuse for drunk driving whatsoever people who become victims of this are often seriously injured and many are killed quite often young children.A car in the hands of a drunk driver is a deadly weapon and they should be charged with attempted murder because it is nothing less.Their drivers licence should also be revoked for life. The charge for killing someone while under the influence should be murder and sentenced accordingly. I personally have no sympathy with those who do this and I would have no hesitation in reporting such a driver to the police.

ThankX sweet Simone! MADD has been working on this for years! Signed and noted! I'll be staying home as well as my very wise friends and loved ones! Tomoko, I know of a couple of LOVED ones KILLED BY DRUNK DRIVERS. A neice at age 5 years old decades ago! I pray to God on a daily basis for my ignorance in my youth...for putting so many people in danger because of my childish KNOW IT ALL ADDITUDE "THAT I WAS O.K TO DRIVE". No, I wasn't. I was blessed by the angels above...more accurately...the innocents were blessed by Angels!

Thank you Simone!

Signed and only #60!!!!

Actually had to tell everyone on this site, California Highways, since Christmas have had on their sign above the freeways "report drunk drivers" instead of traffic conditions there were so many more arrests!

Thankfully, this has raised the arrest rate to higher than last year...still, with Holidays, and tonight here in the United States being one of another holiday with a ton of nutty drivers out there, I have always stayed home.

Hope to The Lord the people that are coming from special events and friends and are not the "stupid people" are the safe ones, because, they are always the ones who get killed, not the DRUNK drivers that end up in a car and hit innocent people.

Signed with pleasure...hope more States come up with stiff laws like California does and in 2010 they will be stiffer.

To much loss and to many NUTS out there on Holidays!!! I used to see drivers weave all over before there were cell phones, now people can at least give a heads up to the police just calling 911 here in California.

Hope all of you people have a safe or had a safe New Years!

Noted and signed with the greatest of thanks Simone.
Dan Towery makes these devices here in Lafayette.
He has been a strong MADD activist every since the needless death of his daughter.
This story has a strange twist, my mother and daughter were going in the same direction as Sarah and her boyfriend, but something told mom to go back to her house and check on something. She said it was crazy because she knew she had turned the item off (stove, I can't remember now) but a nagging voice inside her head. I think it was my dad and brother warning her, for it might have been them if they hadn't turned around for that brief time. They came upon the accident just shortly after it happened.

Sarah's father (Dan Towery) recounts tragedy Although we had met Chip before, this was his first trip to Lafayette. ... About 2:45 p.m. we were traveling on 350 South, a city street that is ... We know that, for all intents and purposes, Chip and Sarah were killed instantly. ..... I could only find one Indiana judge, Judge Rick Culver in Hancock County, ...

I think they should have been Mandatory on all new Vehicles years ago.
Driving is a 'Privilege, not a Right.'

If you're on the fence about it, just witness one 'accident' and the aftermath...rest assured, your mind will be made up...Thanks Simone...
