For decades, rare exotic species such as the tiger, panda and snow leopard have become symbols of the world's disappearing wildlife. But according to a new report, common animals are vanishing at an even more alarming rate.

If the headline read that more than half of the world's humans faced extinction today, I would cheer and wish the planet well.

Very concerning.

I think that humanity should restrain its numbers and lifestyles, to enable wildlife and wilderness to survive.

Sometimes I wish WE were on the brink of extinction. Okay, that's a bit harsh, and not really, but you get what I mean. Hopefully there will come a time when this isn't a problem anymore; of course, by then it will be too late for too many species.

Which humans were at the top of this list. Way too many greedy humans in this world.

Noted. Thank you Simone. Its unthinkable a world without these species. Humans have made a right mess of the planet and yet again human animals are thriving at the expense of other creatures.

These stories are so lame!
Yesterday it was one third!
All plants and animals are at risk of extinction at that is the way it should be!
99.9 percent of all living things are ALREADY extinct!
Thats why "survival of the fittest" has meaning.

and as I've stated in previous comments, the human population can't be far behind.

If the human population were half what it is now, this probably wouldn't happen. Humans are like roaches with plastic water bottles.

this is scary. for anyone who says they wish humans were facing extinction, do you mean by being killed, or by not having babies, if it's the second one then i totally agree, but saying it with out saying how sound pretty bad. thanx simone.
