Maritimes foresters do not abandon promises to cut down two years the most important habitats for tiger ... October 20 at 14.00 in Vladivostok in the Amur branch of WWF Russia held an emergency press conference on the new forest auction in Primorye. Their comments will give the media staff of WWF Russia and WWF USA.

On the official website of the Administration of Primorsky Territory on behalf of the regional forest management Primorye appear notice of the October 26 auction No55. On sale are exhibited in the felling of the most important to save the Amur tiger protection forests Pozharsky district of Primorye.

Among them - nerestoohrannaya band Bikin River with the adjacent Bikin nut-fishing zone, which in June 2009 had been leased to the indigenous communities of the Tiger "for harvesting pine nuts and other edible forest resources and collection of medicinal plants.

In the felling of the forest set aside in the reserve created "Sredneussuriysky", which is the last ecological corridor linking the Amur tiger population in the Russian part of the range of tigers on the ridge Vandanshan in China.

New large-scale logging is planned in Pozharskaya nut-fishing zones, where for several years under the guise of thinning is a massive logging of valuable species. That is what this area was discussed in the movie "Dark Forest", shown in May, the TV channel "Russia" in the program "Special Correspondent", where the chief of forest management Primorsky Krai Peter N. Diyuk said frankly: "there was one nut-fishing zone, which can not be rent to pass, because "green" up high. Especially in the Year of the Tiger. And we just chop it, state enterprises, the thinning. There's somewhere around 30-50 thousand, we chop. But there is 40,000 hectares. Well this year, even next year and there simply will not. "

Thus, even on the eve of the International Forum on tiger conservation in the world, to be held in November this year in St. Petersburg at the level of Heads of Government of 13 tiger countries, coastal forest rangers do not abandon promises to cut down two years in the major habitats of the Amur tiger.

At a press conference, the WWF has presented evidence of how forest management authority of Primorsky Territory will do on illegal logging in protected forests, will talk about the progress of efforts to prevent further destruction of the main "feed" the tree of the Far Eastern taiga - Korean pine and will assess the problem of reducing the tiger habitats.

In a press conference:

Denis Smirnov, head of the Forest Program of WWF-Russia Amur branch;
Anatoly Kabanets, coordinator of forestry projects Amur branch of WWF-Russia;
Michael Styuve, Senior Programme Advisor, WWF USA on species conservation.
To participate in a press conference invited the deputies of the Legislative Assembly of Primorsky Krai, an initiative to make Korean pine in the Red Book of Primorye.

A press conference will be held October 20 at 14.00 in the office of WWF-Russia Amur branch at: Vladivostok, ul. Verkhneportovaya, 18-A.
