Name and Address of your MEP

Due to the world wide reach of the Internet, it is impossible to hide most anything from anyone who owns a computer. We live in a global community where news is shared instantaneously on a daily basis.

There is a huge volume of news on the Internet denouncing Spain as a tourist destination. The reason? Not Al-Qaeda, not bad weather, not lack of sightseeing but for the atrocious treatment of animals in that country.

One of the most horrendous atrocities is the annual massacre of the galgo espanol, the Spanish greyhound - from the moment they are born until the moment they die they know nothing but suffering and misery. They are fed nothing more than stale mouldy bread, and ‘live’ in oppressive cold dreary conditions. Come the end of January, after they are used for hunting and the season ends, the annual holocaust of the Galgo begins.

The way these animals are killed is worse than any horror movie you will ever see. These animals are hung from trees, thrown down deep wells, dragged behind cars, shot, bludgeoned, as well as being abandoned en mass to meet their fate with a speeding car or slowly starve to death. News has just been released stating some are donated by hunters for veterinary students and subsequently embalmed ALIVE. Please take a moment, clear your head, and think about this. The anguish they feel is impossible to imagine.

Thus far, Spain’s answer to all the aforementioned atrocities committed on these dogs is to deny that any of this happens. It is quite obvious that this kind of attitude does nothing to improve their awful worldwide reputation for being one of the worst EU countries regarding animal welfare.

Last year the Swedish government was criticized by animal protection and conservation organizations across Europe, after it authorized the killing of a substantial proportion of the country’s wolf population. No less than 12,000 applied to hunt 27 wolves, the set quota. The majority of animals were killed on the first day of what was believed to be a less than humane hunt.

Spain is the only country which still allows hunting with Galgos. The mass murder of 50,000 sentient beings per year simply for the sake of a few mens’ ‘entertainment’ is clearly unacceptable. The trail of bloodshed and misery is unbearable.

The EU MUST implement protection for the Spanish Galgos which will ensure they can live a life free from the immense torture they face on a daily basis.

Derek Vaughn, one of the Labour MEP's for Wales is very concerned about the problem and has tabled a Written Question to the Commission to bring it to wider attention and see what can be done to help end this unnecessary suffering.

Please support this motion

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely Yours,

Paul McCartney and Joaquin Phoenix have documentaries out on the harm brought by humans to living beings. These living beings, of course, end up suffering in nameless agonies and then are murdered brutally...we must adopt the vegetarian diet that all mystics in each age of man has emphasized to the exclusion of, in so many, their own rights to live safely. Their teachings must not o in vain and fall upon deaf ears for so many generations. Please know that the Romans omitted by burning + other destruction of texts, and killing off of all who were close to Jesus, the truth. The truth is that Jesus taught the same as all adepts before and since, the unbroken line of living a harm-free existence, vegetarian diet, karma, reincarnation...everything we already know from mystic teachings that have not been edited or destroyed.

Spain. . . again. As if China and Korea aren't doing their worst, we have to have a European representative that excels in the lack of animal welfare. It's almost as if they are a breed apart, these particular Spaniards - I have no wish to insult the good, caring Spanish people who are constantly outraged by, and ashamed of, the reputation the Cruel Ones give their country. What gives them the right to manifest such cruelties to the innocent?

what the hell is in the water in Spain? It's one form of live animal torture after another! We have our problems in the US, but we don't set animals on fire or stab them with sticks and make a public event out of it. We are working on making animal abuse laws more strict. More power to the Spaniards that are doing the same.

What is wrong with this people? bull fight, burning a bull´s head in "toro júbilo", throwing a live goat from a church´s tower to celebrate a saint´s day and so forth. How is that they can not get over the roman circus days? Why can´t they celebrate or have fun without torturing animals?

It's barbaric, there is no excuse for such acts. I ban Spain from my list of friendly countries. If people were stopping to go to Spain on holidays, or stopping buying spanish products, maybe the voices of these tortured animals could be heard.

There are just too many evil people on this planet to stop all of the torture and pain that animals endure. The stories never end and the ways that animals are abused get more horrendous as time passes. Caring about the plight of animals is like self-inflicted torture. The only way to stop this madness is to eliminate humans from the equation.

It doesn't surprise me that Spain is commiting such atrocities, they have a history of animal abuse and their denial of it. More people in that country have to care in order for change to happen because the government, in their arrogance won't listen to foreigners, Its China all over again.

SPAIN : AGAIN !!! More Animal Cruelty!!!
I feel EXTREMELY Sorry for the Spanish People who ARE Animal Lovers.
How Ashamed they must feel to be living there!!!
How frustrated & hopeless they must feel, at the LACK of any Diligently Enforced, Very Strong Animal Welfare Laws, that carry Harsh Penalties, Designed as a Deterrent.

Unfortunately, this is not new. WSPA have fought this for ages. I don't understand why they have so many cruel traditions in Spain which otherwise is a modern country. But those things is not making good for their image. It is just so horrible. I wonder why it wasn't a petition to sign on this? I didn't get what was acquired.

Oh my God, this I never never knew about...I have been to Spain many times. I worked for an airline for many years.
I must admit now my feelings about the country has changed. I can hardly believe the torture and killing of greyhound
dogs is a sport, a thrill for these mindless idiots, scum, who happen to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. I ask "WHY". My God, how sick does one have to be? How could they hurt, let alone kill these poor innocent creatures? I am sick and my head aches. There is no sense to be made of this and my head hurts with all this crazy shit inside of it. Please, it has to stop. If necessay, let us get all the greyhound dogs out of the country. Drastic actions have got to be taken. I can't even think straight right now because this news is floating into my head and I can not get the images out of my mind. It actually hurts...we need to do something...please...please
As I am writing this in my computer, my precious cat named Soc is lying in front of me wanting me to cuddle him. I do so but I am like a robot right now. I must grab him and hold tight..Soc..............he is one of the lucky am I.

I hope I am not missing a US link but it appears action is only for the EU, I am in the US is anything that I can do? Spain again! I spent two months there and it is a beautiful country, wonderful people but I suppose you cannot have a society with a culture so deeply embedded with rituals like bullfighting and wild horse wrestling, and not expect the ripples to affect. I know in the US, in the areas with factory farming, rodeo's etc. you have higher cases of animal abuse/torture. It is in the overall way of living/culture that has a total disregard even disdain towards animals and this get's passed and ingrained in attitudes. That is why it is so important for whole way in which we view animals needs to keep on a strong pace of evolution. THANKS! If there is something that people in the US can do let us know.

I guess the Spanish embassies could be contacted too -- accompanied by that dreadful photo, and graphic information ? You could tell them that you will be boycotting their country until the animal cruelties end?

Then there are all the travel companies - send them the same and ask if they would like to include in their brochures?

I have done similar when campaigning for the bulls, letters and emails going far and wide. Bad publicity isn't good publicity for a country that is so heavily reliant on the tourist industry for so much of the year.
