He was the man made famous when he was photographed carrying a kangaroo out of the swollen Bremer River at Ipswich, west of Brisbane, at the height of January's floods. But Ray Cole and his family have struggled with a series of devastating post-flood

Noted with sadness! This poor man's sure been through a lot! Just goes to show the lasting effects the floods have had and the toll it's taken on people!! I hope this family's had all of the nastiness done with now. They've had more than their share. Thanks Simone!

All disasters and loss cause tremendous shock and stress upon people. Everyone knows this. But what Ray Cole said, people are suffering inside but attempt to appear ok, becasue that's what many people do. They shut down inside, they have to shut down becasue they have to keep going, they have to survive. And the unwillingness to provide mental health to disaster victims isn't out of ignorance, but greed.

Honestly, the depths of behaviour that people will sink to! I just felt SICk when I heard what had happened to this family.. How can people do this to people who have lost so much and are already so traumaitsed. I just hope and pray that one day, all the vicims of these terrible floods will be healed of their terrible memories and will be able to pick up where they left off. tTauma of this type is hard to get over. My prayers are with each and every person who has been affected by the terrible ravages of natural disasasters. I wish there was more that I, personally, could do. Words are so inadeqate to help at times like this.

"...burglars trashed his house and defecated on the kitchen floor,"

WTF kind of MORONS do such things as taking dump on the KITCHEN floor of a dwelling?! What sort of idiot does things of this nature??

I just don't understand this. When burglars break in, they are generally looking for items to take and leave. Sometimes they make a mess digging for items of value that might be hidden, but a smashing people's family photographs?

This wasn't an ordinary burglary, this was someone that specifically targeted that family to harm them. What kind of deranged assclown would find saving an animal from a river "offensive"??

Mr. Cole is a hero, and for all he's been through, he's coping better than most. I am so very sorry to hear that amidst all the natural disasters and trouble, he was targeted and victimized by lunatics who obviously gain a thrill harming others. I hope they are caught by the authorities and that the criminal justice system makes an example of them - they deserve it!

Too sad. People are always quick give a hand to slap people down but never offer a hand to lift them up. I'll be keeping him and his family in my thoughts.

Mental health issues are something that are always on the back burner worldwide. Only at times of disaster or the the more spectacular manifestations of mental health issues such as serial killers or gross acts of animal cruelty does anyone take notice! This guy should be in our thoughts and prayers along with all victims of disasters and the consequences of lack of mental health care world wide!
