Fur Flies Over Plan to Stuff Berlin's Favourite Polar Bear

A polar bear died and the zoo's director decided to stuff its body and put it on display in a museum. And that would be that, except this polar bear was on the cover of Vanity Fair, has a fan club in Japan and followers in Fiji, and was the most famous

This popular polar bear doesn't need to be stuffed to be appreciated!,I wouldn't want to see my favourite animal end this way. Just the photo above will suffice.

Mr Blaszkiewitz said he just wants the fuss to end, and it will, because the corpse has already been sent out, its skin removed and the procedure is well under way. ''This is just a polar bear, a special polar bear, but a polar bear all the same,'' he said. And there you go! That's the attitude. Just a polar bear, deemed of less value than the arrogant mentality of the human race. But guess what, Mr. Blaszkiewitz, one day you will die too, and you will be just like Knut. Death, the great equalizer. Or did you think you were going to heaven? Some special place when human beings die. O please, the stupidity, foolishness and arrogance of the human mind. Thanks for the vomit.

Museums are places of education, and competently-stuffed animals can teach zoology and veterinary students quite a lot about anatomy. Knut's body serves no purpose rotting in a grave somewhere (other than contributing to the earth's nutrient cycles); this way he gets to teach something to people who care about animals.

Beautiful face on that bear. Should be appreciated and shared. A photo is perfect. But we have no say, apparently.

Yeah, I agree, a picture would be great. I can understand how fans may be against stuffing the bear but one day there may be no more polar bears and our children can still see one even if it isnt alive.

Thomas Dörflein must be very shocked at the attitude of his former employer, from the other side...or maybe not.
Obviously, Blaszkiewitz, doesn't believe in the continuation of spirit or respect for the Dead.

Echoes of Victorian times, when a favourite dog who died was stuffed and placed in the parlour.

I do think this is rather morbid, to stuff the pelt of a dead animal. Let the poor creature go! His soul has long since left his earthly body. What is the point of this?

A stuffed polar bear pelt is light-years away from the real, living, breathing thing - a LIVE polar bear!

It's not dignified to be ogled at in a zoo and it's not dignified being stuffed - reminds me of the so called macho hunters who have to stuff their kill and display it - A photo would be more appropriate.

this is so disgusting, poor little creature had to live all his life in a Zoo and now in death in a museum its sick. It said that this little chap had been at this place since birth but no mention of the Mother wonder where she is now. What they should do is have Knut's body cremated and then scatter his ashes in his natural environement where there are other polar bears. These people don't care about Knut they just care about money and people will pay to go and see his stuffed body how disgusting is that. SHAME ON YOU. RIP LITTLE KNUT SAD YOUR SHORT LIFE HAS ENDED.

Stuffing "Knut" is tacky & disrespectful!!! If they really want to honor & pay respect to him, then do all that you can to help Polar bears in their fight for survival. Make a donation to the cause or sign petitions, whatever you can do to help. Hold "Knut" in your heart & memories!! This is the way to honor him!!

Just his comment "it's just a polar bear," says it all for me. This guy is just in this for the money, as if he hasn't made enough off of him already. I wonder how well Knut was cared for as well. Dies at four and a half? He couldn't even afford him a little dignity in death.

Not cool. It's being done only for profit. They stuffed Trigger, Roy Rogers horse, and I think that is disrespectful.
