Despite pleas from Maine citizens, experts from around the world, and actor Lily Tomlin, a veterinarian is moving forward with his plan to bring a lone elephant named Rosie to live in a backyard "sanctuary" that is a anything but a refuge.

Noted this post, signed the petition. I remember this appearing on Care2 Causes not long ago, so I am familiar with the case. What is sure is that people who possess the power to decide about Rosie's future should decide for what is in this elephant's best interest, their personal interests notwithstanding. This elephant has involuntarily served in a circus for decades; now that she is old and sick, she deserves to be placed someplace where her physical and emotional needs will be fulfilled. Only then could she recover and live out her life in comfort and peace. If the place the veterinarian want her in means confinement, cold, and solitude--and all indications point to the assumption that it would--, I cannot support such an endeavor and think the man should overcome his attachment to Rosie and let her go wherever she is likely to feel good.
