IDA has sent a letter to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, calling for the removal of Los Angeles Zoo veterinarian Ellen Wiedner. The demand was prompted by Dr. Wiedner's recent testimony at a public hearing in San Diego County.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Why is Dr Ellen Wiedner still employed as a veterinarian at Los Angeles Zoo?

After reading an article in which she recently testified at a public hearing in San Diego County, l'm shocked that LA Zoo wishes to be associated with this veterinarian.

Anyone whom condones the violent use of bullhooks on elephants,or fails to not condemn the use of an electric prod, fails to show the qualities needed by a creditable veternarian.

Please consider removing Dr Wiedner from her postion at LA Zoo.

I'm sorry, but all of you have no idea what you are talking about and shouldn't even be making any of the ridiculous remarks about someone you have never met or seen work with the elephants she has devoted her heart and soul and life to. In my humble opinion she is one of the best vets I have EVER had the pleasure to work with. I work alongside Dr Wiedner at the LA Zoo and she is just amazing to watch work with all of our elephants. She is knowledgeable and passionate about her work and I can't imagine anyone who has devoted their lives to being a veterinarian would have a disgustingly, low act such as animal cruelty even enter their minds. Do any of you even KNOW what it takes to be a veterinarian and how much dedication and love for animals you need? I'm guessing not, by the completely uneducated comments and responses on this "alert." I'm sorry that you all are missing some kind of devotion and passion in your own lives. Educate yourselves fully before you speak.
