This is outrageous. These beloved animals were slaughtered. May they be sent to jail for a very long time and may God punish them many times harder.

Utterly horrifying ---- These poor innocent animals! Murdered because a
hHurricane left them stranded, and their owners were told they could not bring their animals with them if they wanted to be rescued!!!!!

I would not leave my animals, 4 cats and 1 dog, under any circumstances. We have actually talked about that here and we all feel that same way. Stick a gun in my face and demand that I leave them and go?! I honestly believe I would see red and either I would be dead right then and there, or I would end up pointing the gun into the other guys face telling him exactly where he could evacuate to! Where do they get the right to do that anyway? We should be made aware of the dangers and then we should make up our own minds! That would be the best way! It is my life and I can tell you that it wouldn't be worth living if I went through what those poor people are living with. Damn men and their attitude that they know best!

too much sadness from that horrible disaster!...I too would have not gone, shoot me in the head but youre not taking my dog...many are afraid of the police especially crazy ones!....They should be put under the jail, lousy bastards!....I know it was frightening for many and bad decisions were made to leave any animals behind....some just didnt care....some made excuses....some tried but ended up being told no.....sometimes you MUST QUESTION "AUTHORITY"....never leave an animal behind, even if they are strays.....this is sad..
GO TO JAIL LOSER COPS YOU ARE SHAME TO SOCIETY AND HUMANITY!

This is sad,..once again we are being taken advantage of by people/or persons who are suppose to be our learders..We entrusted our society,..we entrust our children... and the leaders are no more than humans..Never go against what "YOU" believe to be your truth, often the ones who do their job as they should,.. hardly ever make the headlines, unless there is a twist to it...another manipulation in my eyes, people are no longer trusting their learders, be it local or otherwise...And KAT,..I have that same pin from Peta...And I always ? authority,..~~With Love, Kim K~~

I am with you Aggie. I have 6 pets and hubby and I both said it would take a lot for us to leave ANY ONE of them behind.

In my city not to long ago. Our biggest ever illegal dog and cock fighting, oh and don't forget the illegal gambling ring, was raided and found out to be ran by the local cops of the area.... Talk about being steemed. A week before I was given the whole strip search about my Pit having her tags. The cop seemed a bit pissed to find out she was registered to the city ;-) Not getting my baby. I saved her for a reason and love the fact she is now one of the biggest baby, sissy la la dogs in the world. Loves to be with people, loves being dressed up and snorz like Curly from the Stooges. nothing better then that for me ;-)

I guess I would be left behind, because I wouldn't leave my pets. I am all for punishing these so called law officers for what they did. Shooting them instead of rescuing them was wrong. Those people were stressed enough without having this done to them. I don't see how they got away with it. This country has some serious issues.

Just need to express my utter disgust at hearing of the mass slaughter of the pets left behind from Katrina. It would take gunpoint and a bullet to have changed my mind.. Being made to believe they would come back to rescue the pets and instead come back and kill them on purpose - I'm ashamed to be human most of the time because of this sort of thing.. those responsible will suffer - what comes around goes around - no doubt they are suffering right this minute - GOOD - may any person/officer that harms an animal burn in hell forever - which is really too good for them. God help the the owners of these pets that perished - may they know that their angels are with them and do not blame them for what happened. I want to do more - I cannot stomach this story - and cannot understand why it has taken so long for me to hear about it. any person suffering from petloss - please vist www.APLB.org for help

Thank you Simone. Not only were these unfortunate people faced with having their whole lives turned upside down in a horrific natural disaster but their best friends in their pets have been needlessly slaughtered by sadistic law enforcement officers, the very people who are supposed to help them not strip them of the last vestiges of hope by destroying their pets. Very evil acts by those who are meant to help so they should receive strong penalties and hundreds of hours of community work.

I have a very serious problem with that.
In these deep destress, people who have pets need absolutely them, like childres - they are part of their owner lives ! Why massacred theese poors animals. This add a supplementary pain to people.
In South of france 1999 november 13, we had big disaster with 3 m. of water in house. We had a little dog then and everybody has been saved.
Why separate people in pain of their treasure ,

I just *knew* this was going on, had a bad and creepy feeling that animals were being shot to "alleviate the situation" and get them out of the way. Terrible, just awful.

This is heartbreaking! "Katrina took our humanity.." what an understatement! Those deputies who enjoyed shooting the dogs are not fit to wear a badge. If they enjoy killing that much, God only knows what they will do next-who they will turn their guns on! My heart aches for those poor pet owners who lost their best friends! what a horrible thing they went through! In so many ways...!

How sad is this. These beautiful companion animals who once kept their owners happy and grounded come to a fate like this!!! JUSTICE NEEDS TO COME TO THE OWNERS!!!! God bless all their souls.

This is a travesty of justice. As if it weren't bad enough that they left people on tops of houses for 5 to 6 days w/o food water or rescue, then they wouldn't take their pets with them. This was heartbreaking to watch on TV. I felt so sad for them because to some their pets were their family members to others the only family they had. This is another blot on this administration's handling of Katrina. No empathy for the families caught in this horrible hurricane and no empathy for the furry companions who were part of these families. Noted.

THIS IS SO SAD. HAVEN'T WE HAD ENOUGH HATE AND ANGER IN THIS WORLD ALREADY. I TRULY BELEIVE, WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND. AND THEY WILL BE THE ONES TO SUFFER IN THE END, WHICH I THINK CAN'T BE TO FAR AWAY. ALL THIS MADNESS IN THE WORLD HAS TO STOP.. GOD WILL NOT LET THESE HORRIBLE THINGS HAPPEN TO MUCH LONGER. WHY MUST THE INNOCENT HAVE TO BE THE ONES TO SUFFER?????. I WILL HAVE TO AGREE WITH SUSAN C. OUR TRUSTED "FRIENDS" GIVE US SO MUCH MORE THEN THEY EVER TAKE BACK!!!!. WHO IN THERE RIGHT MIND COULD BE SO CRUEL??/

Nothing surprises me about some of the things law enforcement will do..(no offense to police officers that do a job with moral and legal standards).

I would be left behind as well, or I would finding something to put my animals in to take. Too bad! I have three cats and two dogs. There is no damn way I'd be leaving them. I hope that these so called officers get punished severally for what they have done, and these people get some revelation for their loss.
