Begging everyone's pardon but OF COURSE it is because of their injecting waste and water into the subterranean rock layers that there has been a sudden rash of earthquakes there - the same happened in Colorado (around Boulder?) some years ago - so impressive were they that a whole documentary was made on the subject.

Fracking should be banned world wide - but the industry is claiming that there is no truth in fact about the arbitrary seismic activity - that always happens along faults - yea sure - and I suppose they poop rose petals! We in NY have 1 - yes ONE week to submit our letters to the Gov. and Senators and Reps. and DEP expressing our concerns about the fact that the environmental impact statement (which is 1500 pages of BS) - doesn't include one word addressing health impact - and to express our opinions on the fact that they allow drilling to occur within feet of our water shed!
As for the Indiana Senator - I completely agree - I'm tired of hearing the anthem slaughtered and with Indiana State's opera school (one of the best in the country) there is no excuse to have it sung poorly - they could have a coloratura soprano ending it with a mosquito fart high m above q - it would sound great! Give the real singers a chance to earn a buck and let people hear how it should sound!!! (I'm a classically trained baritone) - it may be the only thing I'd agree with that senator about!

I agree fracking should be banned as for Walker he also should be banned, and since I don't like any of my senators from Indiana I think we have bigger problems here then how the anthem is sung.

They've been Injecting wells for years! But fracking SOUNDS cool!;) But I'm very concerned that geologists seem NOT to know where fault lines are or that Water Supplies are in danger!:(

Football --- I don't understand the scoring etc of your Fantasy Football but I do understand the progression to the finals. Early on, I said that Texas Will Rise Again was going to be in the cellar because until Texas gets rid of Perry, they're not going anywhere, even though technically there is no association! Progressive Underdogs had to win because they are progressive and underdogs. I was thinking that TeabagThrashers would be second, but I guess there was too much tannin in the tea and the thrashers got too much in their system and petered out. Playing Without a Helmet probably lost out because of one (or more) blows to the head. ManOnDog Santorum, who wudda thunk?! Hugos Renegades --- never did have a feeling for them.

And the real football, I gave that up when I was 16, right after Gordy Prouse tackled me and damn near broke my foot and on a play or two later, Teddy Pease, who I had a crush on, tackled me and told me I had a big corner tear in the right butt cheek of my jeans! And it wasn't a small tear --- you could pass an apple through the hole! I do however listen to the football bits during Grey Cup and was happy that the BC Lions won the Cup in 2011.

Fracking Bloody Earthquakes! --- Have you ever filled a balloon so full with water that the minute you threw the balloon and someone tried to catch it, it blew apart, usually in their face, not your's? To me that is the lesson of fracking! Keep pumping water and chemicals into the earth and something has to give, usually the earth's crust in the form of an earthquake! That's the laws of physics or geoscience at work! There are enough 'natural' earthquakes caused by the moving tectonic plates of the earth without adding more. When will we learn? I suppose we won't until personal and corporate greed are no longer at issue. I suppose we won't until we replace fossil fuels with green renewable energy sources. I suppose we won't until we learn to live more simply and within our means.

“The Star-Spangled Banner” --- Has this legislator not got better things to do than criticise a singer? I agree with John Dasef when he says "first, who determines “acceptable performance standards,” and second, how does that square with the whole “getting the government off our backs” mantra the Repubs like to spout?" I'd also like to add one more --- just because someone can't sing the song in perfect pitch etc, does that make him any less patriotic? What would this idiot Indiana legislator say if Eric Cantor or John Boehner sang The Star-Spangled Banner sounding like a train wreck? Would he fine them? How far does he intend to take this? A national athem is intended as a rallying cry, not a performance.

Wisconsin --- I suppose that is one way of damage control, even if he is being 100% dishonest about the why's and wherefore's. Scotty needs to be beamed up somewhere, anywhere but this planet! And Nameless, I love your report about the Pulaski Highschool Marching Band. That was a VERY patriotic thing to do --- switching tunes to “Sticking to the Union” totally unannounced! as they came to the grandstand.

Cartoon --- Great cartoon. Anybody who is blind enough to vote for a Republican/Teabagger really needs a reality check.

Thanks all. Kudos Lynn.

John, The Ducks' defense looks a little worse than it is, because of the offense. They score so quickly that the defense spends most of the game on the field.

If causing drinking water to ignite upon being exposed to a flame doesn't convince Big Oil that fracking is not good, why would a few earthquakes change their minds? These people have tunnel vision --all they can see is the almighty dollar.

So, which Republican is going to be the judge and jury when it comes to deciding whether or not each and every rendition of the national anthem sung at any event sponsored by public schools and state universities met their performance standards? Will they define their "standards"? Will they fine children in elementary schools if they forgot a word or suffered a bout of stage fright? I think the Senator from Indiana who introduced this measure needs something to do. All the obstructionism they've been engaging in has freed up a lot of their time.

Leave it to Walker to do something that blatantly phony and misleading! I hope everyone in Wisconsin reads the information you provided, Tom, because it will speed up the petition-signing process. Wisconsin will be so much better off without him.

Great post, Tom!

Fracking should not only be banned worldwide, it should be criminal. What sis they expect, the earth NOT to react to millions of tonnes of high-pressure water/chemicals (mostly chemicals) being forcefully injected into it.....kinda sounds like....RAPE, doesn't it?! What will they do when they frack too close to the New Madrid Fault and cause the Mississippi to flow SOUTH again? Of course, it won't much matter to St. Louis, Alton, or say New Orleans, will it? Because, they will be wiped from the map with all their populations in tow. IDIOTS. Greedy bast***s make me sick.....
