Part of the Republican cave-in over the economic crisis they caused is that a Budget Conference Committee will meet to try to work out an actual Budget, something they should have done months ago, but House Republican refused to appoint conferees. The Republicans have their big gun on on the committee, known for his draconian devotion to Ayn Rand, Paul Ryan (R-Fitzwalkerstan). He will be doing his best to cut Social Security benefits, turn Medicare into a program of vouchers that have ever decreasing value, and hand Medicaid control to the states, so Republican Governors can spend that money on billionaires, instead of poor sick people. But don’t despair. Democrats also have a big gun at the table.

The idea that the Dems got something so now the GOP must get something is absurd. Hey GOP, it's not about YOU; it's about US. The American people don't owe you a dang thing. Certainly not our hard-earned SS that we paid into for a lifetime. Get that through yor thick, braindead skulls. My money is not your money. Keep your greedy paws off, ya friggin' jackals. No offense to real jackals intended.

Unless you are a multi millionaire it is impossible to live in the US.

Roseann is spot on.
The entire Ayn Rand thing is, I believe, it's appeal to mentalities that run in black and white, unable to encompass any subtleties.
Her point of view is that the INDIVIDUAL counts for everything. I do not discount the value of individuals, but just as "No man is an island," individuals live within a social and cultural context. While there may, indeed, be "self-made" millionaires, etc. here, the culture of the USA has been anything but encouraging, has been downright suffocating, for huge numbers of the populace, in various, sometimes subtle (yes, there's that word again) ways.
The individual is not a universe unto his/herself, and an architect who does not like how his/her design was executed does not own that building, and ought to be prosecuted upon blowing up said building!
The conservatives, use the concepts of Ayn Rand to excuse their GREED, that's all!

Mitchell's right! Conservatives have a way of twisting words to suit their agenda. Like Jesus, for example. They want to be Jesusy and then they hate the poor. They want to be rich, so they subvert the concepts of Ayn Rand. SIGH.

Ty Tom ... Bernie Sanders is the genuine article. . .a thoughtful statesman who knows his job and truly works for We the People. . .

"In what can only be seen as good news for people who like traditional earned-benefit programs like Social Security and Medicare, here’s one name that appears on the list of Senate conferees in the upcoming Paul Ryan-Patty Murray budget talks — Vermont independent Sen. Bernie Sanders."

Those will not be productive talks, I am afraid, given who will be there from the "sky is falling" reich wing. But people like Bernie Sanders give me hope that when the forces of darkness are finally defeated, reason, compassion and truth will again see the light of day be the way of this great nation. He's a great man, Vermont is fortunate to have him, Betsy must be so proud, and for that matter, we as a nation are fortunate to have his voice speaking for those with no voice and those of who no one will listen to. The way out is to unseat the Tea Party and I do believe the country is coming to that realization. I think next year we see many Tea Party Governors elected in 2010 go down and in 2016 all those Tea Party Senators, or many of them, fall as well. I think 2016 will be a monster year for progressive America. And we have people like Bernie Sanders to thank for that.

Bernie Sanders for President! Of course, that will never happen but I can dream of a President like him, no ties to corporate, no strings to lobbyists, what a concept. I am glad he'll be the voice of "hell no" to the same old program that Ryan will once again propose, ad nauseam.

Is a real indicator of a Country in trouble when we can pull a few names out of the air that speak with intelligence, compassion, and has true clear ideas on how to make things better for everyone in this Country. All our members of the Senate and House should be doing these things, yet we have a hand full, Bernie Sanders is one of them.

Bernie Sanders is a fresh breath, after all the foul air the Republicans had caused.

Vouchers for Medicare and run by the State???!!! I do believe Paul Ryan has been infected with fecal matter in his brain.

Seems like a very good choice to me. Bernie Sanders has experience and brainpower enough to run rings around guys like Paul Ryan. But I agree with Gene, you need more or all the participants in the talks willing to play the game, so there's little chance the talks will be very productive. But at least this is a man who will not be talked down and not be conned or blackmailed into an agreement, but will show the Teabaggers for what they truly are: fundamentalists without rhyme or reason.

LOL Dave!:) I Love Bernie Sanders! There's only a handful of trustworthy, intelligent, & compassionate elected officals left in Washington - we have to dig up More Progressives to clean up the pigpen where Bu$h Leaguers wallowed in their own filth!

Bernie cares about his job enough to do the math while Ryan has admitted that he never did it on his proposed budgets. Patti Murray often sides with the middle class and vulnerable in society on bills and proposals, so also someone who may be a voice I'd support. If Ryan is forced to acknowledge his incomplete work that doesn't math out, others may well prevail--especially if he sees the writing on the wall that no one would dream of him being the top of the ticket in the GOP these days.

of Bernie Sanders', Elizabeth Warren's and
Patty Murphy's. Ah yes, my fantasy Congress.

Seeing as everything in Paul Ryan's proposed budget is directly contrary to everything the Pope so publicly said, although Ryan claims to be Catholic, I feel the Pope needs to look at publicly excommunicating him. Of course the Pope should interview him and allow him to defend himself - so confident am I that he will make himself look like the antoChrist - but a failure to change his position after such an interview should be grounds for very public excommunication!! If we all had governments filled with people like Bernie Saunders (may he live forever!) and Elizabeth Warren. oh, what a sustainable, just and democratic world it would be!

Love me some Bernie! Wish he was 20 yrs younger so he could run for Prez. But with him on the committee, Ryan is going to be made to look like the sociopath he truly is. Too bad they didn't put Liz on that committee as well. We need all the big guns we can get.

But I also understand that......this is a no-go from the get-go, the Fascist Bast**ds are not going to play nice if they even play at all. Personally, I think they are going to drag this committee on and on and stalemate and weasel and then talk talk talk to no avail and STALL this thing until the next budget/default deadlines. So they can say that they triiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiied (yeah, right) and boohoo we didn't get the Dems to do what we wanted and waaaaaaaaaaaaaa we wanna take down Medicare/SS/Medicaid but they aren't capitulating, so dammit (STOMP) we are gonna take our toys and go home and not play in the sandbox anymore and let the big bad gubmint crash n burn....so there! (Sound familiar to any parents out there who have kids who pull these tantrums, or attempt to?) Good....I knew it would. That, my peeps, is exactly what they would like to do. Whether or not Bernie can keep them from gutting the very programs that WE ALL have paid into over the lifetimes of our careers, remains to be seen. I prey he can.

"We've got a name for it in the House: it's called the Senate surrender caucus. Any one who would vote for that in the House as a Republican, would virtually guarantee a primary challenger." — Rep Tim Huelskamp (R-Kansas)

As Bernie says, "It speaks for itself."! And I agree. Huelskamp is demonstrating that the Republicanus/Teabaggers do NOT represent their constituents, but rather represent their big money backers. It says that the Republicanus/Teabaggers don't give a rat's ass for the American people. They only care about their political career and their perceived POWER!

I am certainly glad that Bernie is on the committee. Bernie is one passionate PEOPLE'S representative in the Senate! Go Bernie! I wonder if Elizabeth Warren will be another member of the committee?

lTom Cat, you and Kit and others have been doing a superior job of teaching our Care2 members about government and finance and the things we need to know to survive. You have so thoroughly studied and evidently applied and now you share so well. Thank you.

Government, money and power have never interested me. In this financial crisis, I have learned how vital to survival an understanding of these factors is. This early morning, I have been surfing the internet and learning what I can. While doing this, I came upon an AMAZING You Tube site that educates in an easy to understand progression. It explains in terms so simple that even I can understand. It guides from the beginning of our nation and how the revolution was due to England's control of our money. It progresses and explains all the basics of the money power enslavement.

As I watched the documentary, being a Care2 member interested in receiving to share, I thought of you and your work to educate us and thus shelter us from the worst that is happening. Additionally, this site explains the New World Order. It fills us in on how the news is financially slanted due to the owners being part of the power/money controllers who rule the world.

Here is the name of the You Tube site....Conspiracy Documentary New World Order.

I thank you for all you are doing to equip us with the information we need to defend ourselves, our families and our country.

Again, I thank you.

JL A is also most helpful in educating us in these financial and governmental matters.
