t’s taken a month for the Republican Party to come up with an official response to the Orlando Massacre. They took an ever so brief timeout from hating, Blacks, Latinos,Women. the poor, etc., to focus their hatred on the LGBT community.

Geesh, It gets worse and worse, doesn't it? I am passing this on to friends to get the word out. Ugh! this is scary, and sickening. Texa is always looking for ways to hinder our gay community, with discrimination, all in the name of religion. WWJD? He'd be crying.

Thanks, Tom.

Care2 had a pro blogger address this event this morning also. One of the members there made a profound remark that the Constitution guarantees Freedom of Religion, NOT religious freedom, and that they are not the same. This bill illustrates that by attempting to give certain people the "religious freedom" to hate and discriminate, and in doing so knocks Freedom of Religion right out into the stratosphere. It's like the "how to tell if your religious liberties are being vioated" chart (which seems to be all over the internet)
Chart only: http://wp.production.patheos.com/blogs/exploringourmatrix/files/2015/03/Religious-Liberties-Violated.jpg

They're kidding…please tell me they're kidding. The country is in bloody turmoil with one shooting after the other, overt racism in all layers of society, Islamophobia on the rise, misogyny becoming second nature in many states…people taking to the street and tension rising and what do the Republicans in Congress come up with? A gun control bill? Or perhaps reaching across the isle to try and close the political abyss a little, trying to move the country forward instead of backward? No, they come up with a bill to legalize discrimination; a bill of hate and self-serving religious bigotry.

I know these are the convulsions of a dying party, a party that has done nothing in the past eight years that made any sense or brought the country forward, a party that is now completely incapable of doing anything positive, a party that can only unite its members behind some unconstitutional fringe bill that only the extremists in their base want. It'll never make it to law, Obama will not sign it, Hillary will not sign it, even this SCOTUS will not allow it because it's unconstitutional…but the Republicans saw fit to put it forward now, before rigor mortis sets in. It's disgusting and it's shameful and the only place for this bill is the garbage heap, together with what's left of the GOP.

"On Tuesday, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform plans to consider FADA. The anti-LGBT bill has 171 different co-sponsors, nearly all of them Republicans."

Absolutely consistent with the absolutely consistently wrong response to EVERYTHING by this incarnation of the republican party. Their names should be enshrined on a book destined for the 7th Circle of Hell, where seats are permanently reserved for those whose soul purpose on the planet is to hate and foster more hatred and violence all in the guise of the bloodiest religion in history, a stain on the memory of the prophet whose name it bears, but which has nothing at all to do what what He taught. The reading of what he did teach ought be mandatory at any hearing held by any republican for anything because whatever that might be, they are surely going to have what He said, wrong. Completely wrong. I'd say the same for churches, but there is even less excuse for they who further not the cause of love but hatred in the name of He who taught that love was the answer to every question. There are days I wish I had a giant people eraser, to just wipe the earth clean of all who claim religion as their reason for hate. It would be a busy business, but the most worthwhile thing I could ever do. Leave only those whose first choice is always love. That would be paradise on earth. Not quite what we have now nor what will be on display tomorrow. Sickening people, these unadulterated racist, bigots. If ever there were a Rapture, surely they would all be left on islands wondering just what the effing heck happened. And never understanding, even then, just how wrong they've always been.

One item appears to be missing from this list of hate: Muslims.

The GOP/TP people are very sick and must be excised from politics as they are not fit to be members of any political organization, much less in Congress.

Great comments especially by Lona G and Gene J. People with Republicans in their districts vote them out of office. The entire House of Representatives is up for re election. Let's deliver a crushing defeat to show Republicans what we think of their crippling The house of Representatives and their promoting hate.. Fortunately I don't have any Republicans representing my district.

I didn't think they could get any meaner or spiteful, but I was wrong. I agree with Lona, no Democrat will sign this bill, but it will make the Repugs who signed it get points with their bigoted supporters. I wish even a few of our fellow citizens understood our constitution as well as Lona and Lynn.

Hate is legal; the title really should say ‘hateful actions,’ which in many cases (other than hate speech, for example) should be illegal. I haven't read the details, but I guess the president will veto this, so not much need to worry, unless Congress tries the process of overruling the president, which I don' think I've heard of happening in history. There's some sorts of arguments that private businesses should have the right to employ people (and have standards,) sell to people, or only create items, that they want though in many/most cases if they exclude people, others will rightly boycott... and there's some argument in favour of women's rights that conflict with other rights already reported to be abused for various incidents... but I don't have an opinion on all that, other that I would want boycott racist businesses, and religions with violent texts, who also it seems is unconstitutional to have laws respecting them to give them exceptions like this.

This is so tragic!

Republicans supporting this BS are the fallen angel . . . the original fallen angel.

"…because of the provision protecting religious objectors who believe that “sexual relations are properly reserved to” opposite sex marriages, FADA also grants a broad array of special rights to people who target many straight couples."

What is also interesting is that this so called law would appear to outlaw pre-marital sex, and philandering . . . even by family values Republicans. Oh the horrors! I wonder if they understand that?

My rights end at the end of my nose, just as your rights end at the end of your nose. All are equal!

This is absolutely one of the very most disgusting things ever and with the Republicans, that's saying a lot.

Any religion that allows such hatred is no religion in my book.  Makes me want to squash every one of these numnutts like the despicable insects they are....

The Republicans just love to hate, if anything they are stuck in a perpetual outrage loop. Republicans have become increasingly synonymous with mean-spirited, prank-like and combative activism and self-important grand gestures. Their strategy of outrage upon outrage upon outrage bumps up against the policy preferences and the attitudes of so many people in perfect discord. It is really that when they can unleash some of the most dysfunctional and mad people so regularly they really need a new guiding moral principle, like: "Don't be embarrassing."
