From the moment that Richard Burr [R-NC] and Mark Warner [D-VA] first announced that, unlike their counterparts in the House, their Committee would get to the bottom of Russian interference with our election and collusion with the Trump campaign, I was skeptical. After all, the Republicans on that committee are all fascists, with the possible exception of Collins [R-ME], and there are even 1 1/2 Republicans on our side of the aisle Manchin [DINO-WV] and Feinstein [HALF-DINO-CA]. It appears I was right.

The White House just denied a request from the House Oversight Committee for documents on Michael Flynn - yes, I realize that's the House, but they are not going to deny something to the House and then turn around and just hand it to the Senate. I might also point out this was not the House Intelligence Committee, but the House Oversight Committee. Does the Senate have one? I am also fascinated that Yahoo! News is considered credible. My gut feeling is that it may be just this guy. You think threats of election loss will be enought to light a fire under them? I suspect we need to make those election losses ACTUAL, not just potential, before we will see any action.

I am more and more suspecting that Rump will never be actually investigated properly and now too many are starting to find little things "he has done well" (in their opinions)......resist, stand strong, stand together

Grimly noted. Pairing the word "intelligence" with any current government endeavor is oxymoronic. Thx for posting TC.

Makes much clearer why the independent investigation is required...Chaffez apparently believes that felony charges should by filed against Flynn on the payments he received from Turkey and Russia. Thanks TC

I never expected them to do a full investigation, they are all too afraid.  Hopefully, their constituents will light a big enough fire that they will have to make some effort before the next election.

Why is everyone so surprised? Mitch McConnell forced Obama's hand when the first intel came out last September pointing to Russian interference in the election and Obama made the mistake of not starting an investigation then. Since then both the House and the Senate first refused to investigate this fully (not just the hacked DNC e-mails) and only under heavy pressure allowed both Congressional committees to "investigate" a broader scope, but never allowed an independent commission to delve into this.

These committees were never meant to be anything but a facade, a charade to keep the public at bay. It is too obvious that Russia-gate goes beyond Drumpf and his then campaign leaders, now members of his administration and advisory board and that GOP leaders had at the least knowledge of what was going on. So with the GOP ruling the roost there's never going to be an independent investigation and the GOP will continue to do everything to stay in power in 2018, including keeping these committees going, doing nothing.

This also sheds a light on why the Republicans haven't dumped Drumpf yet, even though he's signed most of the decrees and bills they needed him to sign to undo all of Obama's work and even though he's becoming more of a liability each day, even to them. If Drumpf falls on Russia gate, so may Pence, McDonnell, Ryan and many others in the GOP. So now they're delaying investigating ties to Russia as much as possible and let Drumpf run wild in the hope he'll trip on some other scandal or just plain insanity/dementia.

Plenty of good comments here. Enough perhaps to encourage action. A phone call or two to your representatives with questions of what are you doing, why are you doing / allowing / or not doing, and no I don't want you doing that.

You pay them, provide them with benefits, so when they don't perform the way you expect, then don't you have an obligation to learn why?

Keep it up and they will begin to notice that they are being watched, their work is being scrutinized and they will begin to develop a sensitivity. It will become a measure of their likelihood for re-electability, a justification / endorsement for their actions. When they see the numbers climb there will be a quick recognition of political "forces" which they would rather have supporting them than stemming against them - watch things begin to change.

Periodic phone calls don't cost much money or time, you don't need membership or login. Even your opponents will be impressed at how well informed you are and impressed with your civic engagement. Don't be afraid to share your opinions and listen to those of others. If and when you challenge their's or have to defend yours - you will be amazed at what happens, new ideas, new thoughts and compromise once you find that you share similar goals.

These days any phrase involving Senate and intelligence generally come over as an oxymoron. The Republicans are happy to have one of their own in the White House even though Trump is very much a cuckoo in the nest who really does not want anyone to investigate him as there may actually be enough evidence for him to be looking at serious prison time and Damnatio memoriae.

Republicans were hot to trot when the investigations involved Hillary — emails, Benghazi etc.  But now, it is one, or rather some, of their own and they are dragging things out to avoid controversy.  The problem is there is already controversy and their inaction is creating more.  The time has come for a special prosecutor to get to the heart of the issues, after all, this is a national security matter.  Republicans, or rather Drumpf signed and initiated his first Muslim ban is very short order and that was supposedly a national security matter.  Hypocrites!  The midterms must signal a US spring where Republicans are unceremoniously turfed from office.

I think it is going to take indictments. When the FBI finally issues them. Politicians simply can't be trusted to investigate themselves, particularly when it is the majority party in all three branches "guilty" of charges. I see that now the House republicans want to EXEMPT themselves from coverage under their "new and improved" health care proposal. I think that a practice that MUST be ended permanently. They cannot objectively nor fairly represent us if they are not subject to the SAME laws they make us subject to. That simply has to stop, it should never be allowed again for anything, or any reason.

The reason the internal investigations are stalled is that so many members have enormous conflicts of interest or are themselves complicit. We need an Independent Special Prosecutor, but that vile elf, Sessions will never appoint one. It will require indictments if Comey is the law enforcement officer he alleges he is. The whole thing stinks worse every day and the Democrats sit on their hands and don't say a word. Either they know a LOT we don't, or they ought be fired too. This Congress may set a record for most members imprisoned. That I'd like to see, sooner rather than later.

Time for a little "come to Jesus" with our runaway representatives. Few can take the heat of a public "calling out" and stand the ensuing scrutiny just watch how even ardent supporters that were content to lie in the shadows will shirk the glare of public scrutiny, Note how they cut and run for the safety of obscurity when they realize their motives have been laid bare and they encounter a public ire combined with a desire for them to face the legal and moral consequences of their misdeeds. The frenzy of activity in backpedaling will be amusing, if it weren't so sad. Who will they blame? Well there will be some that will have plenty of time to think about it, prison brings out the contemplative side of folks.

It's your dollar, how much are you willing to tolerate? I'll be less inclined to grumble if I can breathe clean air, drink safe water, not have to spend 40% of my work week commuting and still not make ends meet. I would rather not have to worry about what happens if I or a family member gets sick or injured. I would rather not have to obsess and fret over my whether my retirement savings will be scavenged by the next round of Wall Street financial hawks with nothing better to do than connive and conspire on how to take it from me "legally".

I would rather spend my time and energy on getting rid of them and replacing them with someone who will shut up and get the job done. No more talk, action. I can now understand the motives for tarring and feathering. Lets go legislators, get your collective asses in gear make American great again and get a great big atta boy from your constituents you'll like it so much more than the alternative. Consider that fewer and fewer are willing to let it slide. Wouldn't it be better to be celebrated rather than chastised?

America will come for you. Think about what side your on and who you stand with. Each election cycle is judgement day. Judgement day is coming.
