Well, we can wish each other a good MLK Day. That doesn't have to mean happy (when tears are more appropriate especially.) It can mean meditative, or productive, or even peaceful - as peaceful as one can be when there is no peace, but if a day of peace helps us with strength to go on, that would be a good day.

The Internet is full of articles showing how, in our human fashion, we have managed to honor the man while missing the message (like Christmas is any different?) I don't mean to trivialize the civil rights accomplishments which are a huge part of his legacy - but he also opposed the Vietnam War before that was cool, and opposed capitalism before THAT was cool, and opposed economic inequality, before opposing economic equality was cool. We owe him so much.

"He freed a lot of people, but it seems the good, they die young. You just look around, and he's gone."

Amen! Amen! to you, for your honoring this man who became a spokesperson and leader in advancing civil rights and non-violence to all.

In 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed a bill that would establish a nationally observed holiday in remembrance of King. He is the only non-president to have received such an honor – the only other American to have a holiday commemorated in his name is George Washington. The holiday was first celebrated in 1986 on the third Monday in January, close to MLK’s birthday on January 15th. He is also the only non-president with a memorial, located on the National Mall in Washington, DC.

This man had a great influence on this country - and he would be horrified by the way things are now. 50 years after he was murdered, far too little has changed.

I am happy that San Diego has memorials on freeways here! ABOUT TIME.

Sadly, those "FEW" people that could of and did make a difference are gone.

"Past Republican & Democratic presidents have done some form of commemoration for King's life of service on the holiday during their time in office.
While trump urged Americans last Friday to observe the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday with acts of civic work and community service to honor the life of the civil rights legend, it doesn’t appear he'll be doing the same, with no public events listed on his schedule."

And where is the POS?
Playing golf at Mar-a-Lago, of course 💩

One of my best Friends walked beside MLK in Birmingham going across the bridge when they had been pushed back by hoses! She was quite young said she was all wet! We all would have done this too!
But we all remember what MLK had done, it was good!
Thank you TomCat

MLK could have been the leader we all needed, but he went the way of the Kennedys, because of the very things he was fighting against, including, at the end, the dirty war that we were lied into in that generation. So sad…on many fronts

Have a good and thoughtful MLK day.

Remember all the good that wonderful man has tried to accomplish, did accomplish in fact, and then also remember what has been taken away from his legacy and by whom. And the epitome of destruction of his dreams sits in the Oval Office right now and goes by the name of racist Drumpf.

There’s only one thing for it: get rid of that abomination in the White House and all that enabled him, and resurrect Dr. Martin Luther King’s dreams.

I try to keep doing what he had been doing in his life, this day it may be not much I can do but as far as things are not in very good shape. I shall carry on till the end, till my last breath. Let this be the way I honour MLK. Many thanks TC for your post. Meows meow

What a blessing to have been on the Earth the same time he was, and I feel that blessing, but to actually have met him Tom, wow, excellent. I wish we had a thousand of him today.
