I have read in more than one place that impeachment may not be the way to go. Voting tRump's arse out of the Oval Office is a MUST, though, no matter how you slice it. We need to separate the Democrat wheat from the Democrat chaff, pick a few truly Progressive candidates, then one truly Progressive candidate. We need to shake up the Democratic party's establishment and force them back to their progressive, liberal, forward-thinking roots. Democrats need to focus on WINNING above all, and having a real campaign, not just tossing Agent Orange out of the White House, but putting this country back on the path of real progress and breaking the stranglehold that the 1% have on our nation.

I'm an enormous fan of Adam Schiff's....did you enjoy seeing him with Bill? He's so rational, dedicated, intelligent...unlike so many politicians we know.

Monologue - I perceive Bill can now pronounce "Buttigieg" like a pro. As far as Trump being the only issue, I'm pretty sure he means Trump is the only issue for 2020, not that he would take impeachment off the table for the interim. (Also that by "Trump" he means "the Trump party.")

Adam - I like the way he thinks, and it's very good to see him in a position where he can speak confidently. (Has anyone considered that the solution to the impeachment problem may be to hold painstaking investigations, at the same time as [or in between] passing solid legislation, and then bring the actual articles, oh, say, November 4, 2020? Not that I would, or we should, plan that, but it would be sweet for it to turn out that way.)

Costas - I know as much about sports as you, TC, know about Game of Thrones, so I have really nothing to say on this. (Well, except maybe good for SOME Coloradans.)

New Rules - Well, it's a good expression of all the frustration people have been feeling. And there's nothing wrong with expressing frustration. As long as it doesn't paralyze us out of moving forward. And, of course, by "us" I mean Congress.

RESIST AND PERSIST !!!

Impeachment, in the sense of removal from office, isn't going to happen. Senate won't do it. Not in this Congress anyway. But remember how long Watergate took to unfold. Remember how long those hearings went on? There are also 14 - 20 other federal and state investigations ongoing.

That said, oversight IS the province of Congress. Trump can't ignore subpoenas, he can't "go straight to the Supreme Court" as they have NO role in impeachment proceedings. Rulings on executive privilege, well, there are precedents there from Watergate. Suing Congress to prevent it from doing its job simply can't work no matter how many judges orange foolius has appointed.

I don't actually think it need be done, nor should be done by November 2020. What can be and should be done is hold the hearings, continue to hold hearings, investigate every "bread crumb" Mueller laid out. There are many avenues of investigation for Congress to follow. I'd like THIS to be front and center all the way to the election, perhaps Articles of Impeachment are issued. In October 2020 or sometime before, doesn't matter. Keep what Trump and his campaign, family and businesses have done front and center and on the news every freaking day until the election. So that America KNOWS what they are voting for.

Right now, the only group favoring impeachment, according to the Post's poll is the under 40 group. That's promising. They ARE the future and they see what is and isn't right here. It's amazing to me that whites over 40 agree he has done horrible things but don't want to impeach. The good news is that group is not going to be around much longer, demographically and physically. The worst of the worst are also the oldest. This nation will change, it will get better, that's inevitable. One way to hasten that is to keep this investigation and the follow up hearings going as long as possible whether the House ever even issues articles of impeachment. Trump WILL help, all the way, as will his idiot advisers. And crack legal team. Just keep pushing.

I'm not happy Joe entered the race. I don't care that he polls well. I've never forgiven him for the way he treated Anita Hill, neither has she, and I never will. I remember those hearings, I couldn't tell the difference between Joe and Orrin Hatch and Joe ran that committee. Okay, he's evolved? Obama likes him? But has not endorsed him. Yet, anyway. He has yet to give Anita Hill a full apology apart from the "if you were offended" non-apology apology. I don't think he'll be the nominee anyway. Nor Bernie for that matter. I will support whomever that is because, as Freya pointed out, the most important thing is getting rid of Trump and as many republicans as possible in 2020.

I got a mailing from the DCCC the other day wanting me to pick the top three issues in a bunch of areas on their survey. Impossible. ALL of those things are critical. I sent it back with a note telling them that when they get serious about ALL of them to get back in touch. I'm not choosing three things when there are 10 or more in every category that ARE of critical importance to me. There is a progressive platform that includes all of those things, or should be. There's a way forward in this country that addresses all of the ills we have. Not just the top three vote getters. The differences between the parties is so stark that I think it silly to pick out three issues to care about when the entire country is on fire. If you put out the flames on one corner of the blanket, the blanket is still going to burn up. There's the right wing way or the right way and the right way includes everything in that survey. Not just a few cherry picked nuggets. How they don't see that is troubling. The only candidate so far I do notice seeing the BIG picture is Elizabeth Warren. I hope others do too and time will sort that out. All of the issues are important but the main issue is getting Trump and as much of his party out of office as possible. The way to do that is to keep what Mueller pointed out clearly front and center and continue to point out that ALL of the progressive issues benefit almost all of the people while the right wing ideas benefit a few. That's the distinction. Keep drawing it. Might turn out better than Tom Perez thinks. Will, actually, I think. That and getting young people to be engaged and stay engaged. Which can be done and will be, is being done now by some candidates. It will be a tricky 17 months but eyes on the prize - which is the future of this nation - is what all progressives need do. Gawd, I hope we can manage that. Despite our history...

Bill #1: “Built like a melting port-a-potty” I love it!!!!
Bill #2: Schiff speaks so well, makes cogent points…reminds me of a recent president.
Bill #3: I share some of Costas’ beliefs about the NFL Draft, though that won’t win me many fans, here. I like this 2 U.of C. trustees!!
Bill #4: Muller did send some cases to state AG’s. But, Bill is right on target!!!!!!!
P.S.: Went back to the gym for a light workout, after last week’s flu.
