Thank you Deb. Right up my alley. Interesting about the change from lunar to solar, and I wonder if that had anything to do in part with negative connotations regarding the projected symbolism of the moon. A lunar is a more natural cycle, and a cycle that effects everything on earth. This reminds me I have to buy my lunar calendar for the year!

Thanks Deb. Just I'm preparing "new year card" to be sent to friends and relatives, with a pic (illustration) of "dragon", the symble of the next year.

And interesting that Vietnam has "cat" among their symbol animals. In Japanese folktale, when a god chose 12 animals to become year symbols, cat did some cheating so wasn't chosen..(no offence to cat and cat lovers, lol)

Beautiful.....your link to the moon calendar!...and thank you for the information. I hope the year of the dragon will be reflective of the dragon's qualities...that would negate all the horrid information that is circulating about the impending doom and gloom for 2012. Thanks!

As I write, it's the year of the Rabbit and the hour of the Tiger. So why am I up?

I've seen this information on disposable place mats in Chinese restaurants and on the back of the fortune that comes in my fortune cookie but didn't really understand the cycles and animal symbolism.

Thanks for this very interesting article, Deb!

Also might add that True Christians work off of the Gregorian Calendar as we are Children of the light of Christ and the Satan works off the lunar calendar...The prime root of the word Lunar comes from Lunatic!
