Canada considers allowing unparalleled damage to riverbeds, oceans, and habitats necessary to support life in order to chase the oil dollar. Meanwhile, animal populations continue to rapidly deplete from Tar Sands poisons.

canada, under the leadership of stephen harper pursues its own agenda which is hostile to the natural health of human, animal well being. there is a cozy relationship between industry and the government to the point that civil servants of canada are allowed to make laws which do not have to be read in parliament, do not have to pass the judgement of a court system, do not require warrants for arrest, should anyone not do or say what harper wants you to say or just keep your mouth shut. this is Harper's new mcCarthyism..the cold hard fact is that scientific consensus exists regarding the tar sands and impact that has and will be made.. it is time to stand up and say enough.. Get Informed and Be Silent No More! knowledge is not power its empowering lets be empowered to change.. life has value beyond measure.. Peace and Love

Thanks for the article and your persistent endeavors to address the issue of tar sands. Noted; everything signed!

The mere fact that the West seeks to expand trade with China -- which may be a growing economic power, but which is notorious for its lack of environmental consciousness, animal welfare laws, and for violations of human rights -- is a bitter pill to swallow. Looking at the matter from the limited perspective of filthy lucre, oil corporations seem to have lost all scruples.

Who are they trying to fool into believing that there is no need for safety and environmental concerns about the project when there is a great deal of solid evidence against this ungrounded claim and when many of their addressees were not born yesterday? Mr. Daniel is a personification of an oil baron who is rolling in money and does not regard anything or anybody besides his riches. Enbridge has no intent to "serve the greater public good", its empty promises notwithstanding -- the company only follows its own selfish objectives that lie in the seizure of properties and a fortune made in the oil field. Undoubtedly, Enbridge emphasizes gains, but ignores immeasurable losses in the form of public health hazards, wildlife endangerment, or environmental destruction. Thus, as I see it, there are endless reasons for being alarmed and indignant, and for fiercely opposing this project--one that can only benefit a few to the detriment of all others.

It seems our Canadian politicians do not care about the environment headed by a prime minister who thinks he's a king.

You cannot currently send a star to Deb because you have done so within the last week. Yes, Sylvie - thank you to Deb for continuing this, and thank you Sylvie for your thoughts! I am bereft and tired. And here's another clincher, one that I am obsessed on - the sig counts- The highest sig count on some of these excellent petition is 28,000 for NRDC. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Most a puny amount - less than 1000. This occurs frequently for wildlife and environmental issues - so while we scream at the oil industry, we also need to take a big look at the deluded or apathetic masses! I am not saying a petition will save anything - it won't - but it is a reflection of what people are concerned about. I don't want to say because I fear I will get stoned to death if I list the kind of petitions that get over 100,000 sigs - and while the cause is always good, some pale compared to the profound impact the destruction of wildlife and environment will have upon us now and for future generations. So what do we say anymore ??? Do you know when I go shopping, there is maybe one other person in the store carrying a canvas bag? Gazillions of plastic bags being handed out. People live in lala land. They must believe everything is just going to be ok, they get their paycheck, go home, watch "Dancing with the stars" and it's all OK. Yepper! I am so sad....

most of the design work being done is by incompetent foreign workers the government has been bringing over for 4-5 years now, most of these people don't have north american recognized credentials, the only reason they were hired is because they are cheap, most have lied about their background. yes i have a hositility to this hiring practice as i've been pushed out of the work forces for over 3 years now, with no help from the federal government or provincial leaving me penniless and without hope or medication. i've asked for retraining but the greedy alberta government don't help white people.and since they are in control of the federal dollars things are very grim.

Thanks Deb for all you do for animals and environment. All petitions signed. Constance, I hear you, I do have same feeling. It is frustrating to see the many people are just so ignorant. I don't know how many times in one day that I have to turn off the light and TV in the breakroom at my office when I go there to fill my mug, no one turns these off when they left the room. Seems like people just do not care as long as they don"t have to pay the bill.
