Benghazi attack the latest proof that Obama has failed as a president.

From the article:

An amusing Tea Party billboard features President Obama saying "Things Could Be Worse. Re-Elect Me And I'll Prove It!"

Well, it would be more amusing if it weren't so obviously true. By any reasonable measure, Obama's is a failed presidency. The stimulus failed to stimulate, with unemployment remaining vastly higher than administration economists predicted -- even without the stimulus, much less with it. (An awful lot of the stimulus money also seemed to wind up in the hands of Obama cronies and contributors, too.) And after a brief downtick last month, the unemployment rate is back up in October.

Promises to rebuild our diplomacy from the allegedly-dumb days of the Bush administration have also gone unfulfilled. The "reset" with Russia was a failure, allowing Russia to counter U.S. interests across the globe. Obama's support of the "Arab Spring" has backfired, with Sharia-fueled Islamist governments springing up all over.

In Libya, things are worse yet, with a deadly debacle in Benghazi that cost the lives of four diplomats, including our ambassador, and would have cost more except for two heroic CIA operatives who rescued as many as 24 people at the risk of -- and, in the case of two, the cost of -- their lives. This was followed by an administration cover-up -- still unraveling as officials desperately try to keep the lid on until after the votes are counted -- and an absurd, weeks-long effort to blame everything on an obscure YouTube filmmaker. Who, conveniently, is in jail on trumped up charges.

We're not doing any better with the ongoing fight in Syria; the Pakistanis don't like us because of drone strikes; in Afghanistan our troops are being shot by our Afghan "allies"; and Iran continues to press on toward becoming a nuclear power.

What a load of right wing crap. Under Obam we have had 2 embassy attacks and 4 deaths, yet under the GOP regime we had over 30 embassy attaks and more than 50 deaths.

Do the math; 2 attacks and 4 dead in four years versus more than 50 deaths in 30 attacks in 8 years. All things considered, we have been safer under Obama.

Talk to the GOP run Congress regarding the embassy security budget that they failed to approve.

Oh yeah.....and there is that whole KILLED BIN LADEN thing that Bush and the GOP gave up on trying to do, even after figuring out that he was no longer in Afghanistan.

I'm not sure where you are getting your information, Christopher, but your facts appear to be wrong.

In any case: I do not expect the President of the United States to have magical powers that stop militants from attacking embassies. I do, however, expect his administration to provide adequate protection to our foreign personnel, and, where they have failed to do so, make a prompt and frank investigation to determine why. I certainly do not expect the President's Administration to proceed to lie to the American people for a period of about two weeks about the nature of the attack for no justifiable reason.

I voted Green No way I was voting for Obama because of his signing of the NDAA and no freakin way I was voting for the Romney/Ryan snake oil show Romney considers the rest of us the help. The jobs he creates will be in China or he will drive our wages down to the 3rd world level to (compete) with China make millionaires billionaires and the working class indentured servants.

Paula, if you are going to refute an argument, just saying one is wrong doesn't quite do it. You need to prove it. Actually Christopher is right, during the Bush years there were at least 7 embassy attacks with about 50 people killed.
Like in 2002 when the US Consulate in the Karachi, Pakistan, was attacked and 10 were killed?

Or in 2004 when the US embassy in Uzbekistan was attacked and two were killed and another nine injured?

How about in 2004, when the US Consulate in Saudi Arabia was stormed and 8 lost their lives?

There is more: In 2006, armed men attacked the US Embassy in Syria and one was murdered.

Then in 2007 a grenade was thrown at the US Embassy in Athens.

In 2008, the US Embassy in Serbia was set on fire.

In 2008, bombings in the US Embassy in Yemen killed 10.

Try reading: or numerous other articles.

If this is one of your criteria for your op-ed piece, then it doesn't seem to help your argument.

I thought our country was the UNITED states. You think one man is going to change everything? We either unite or we can bitch and moan and NOTHING will ever get done. So for four years we can unite, write letters, sign petitions, whatever for things that are important to us. Yes, WE (the people) can...with or without Obama. We can start demanding to see more products made in US. We can boycott companies that take OUR jobs offshore. We can support the local businessman. We can donate supplies to our schools (teachers can't be expected to buy everything for their students (some actually do buy classroom supplies). There is much that we can do.

Gloria, I don't live in the US, but I agree with you. We expect government to do everything, then moan because there is too much government interference! How we live our lives and how we choose to spend our money can have a big effect and create change.

Well the President has been re-elected. YES!!! Look at the bright side Paula, you now have four more years to spew your lies and hatred about President Obama. But, you can take some solice in the fact that the party of hate is still in control of the House of Representatives, and I'm sure they will do their very best to stand in the way of progress. So HAPPY HATING, PAULA.

Na na, na na naaa! Obama won, so we all won, even you. We now have 4 more years to fight against narrow-mindedness, backwards education, misogyny, cynical bigotry, and fanatical fundamentalism.
Come into the 21st Century with us, open your mind, educate yourself in science, sociology, and human nature, end you petty prejudices and embrace your fellow citizens. You will be better off and so will the rest of our nation and the world.

Paula M., as usual your lack of facts, misuse of facts, or just making things up shines through.

There are so many things wrong with your post that I will only take time to address a few.

The stimulus did stimulate, and the vast majority of the money went to individuals, businesses, and state and local governments. 37% went to individuals and businesses in the form of tax cuts and tax incentives (2% cut in payroll tax for instance). The vast majority of remaining of the other 63% went to state and local governments, to include money for extended unemployment benefits.

Unemployment, “brief downtick,” followed by a brief uptick.

The Benghazi attack has been abused and misused beyond belief. The CIA or American military was never told to “stand down,” and there were four Americans killed, but only one was an actual diplomat, not four as you stated. Two were CIA operatives and former SEALS. The fourth was in the foreign service as an information management officer, not a diplomat. Stop playing with the facts.

During GW Bush’s term, 11 embassy attacks, 53 dead, 90 injured….

Good Obama won. He started his presidency when the whole world was going down, so what would you expect. He managed a whole lot despite the oppisition was working against him all the time. Let Romney and his friends go to Cayman Island and count the money they don't want to use in the USA.

Congratulations to Barack Obama - the American people have given him another chance. May he govern wisely.

I notice that the posters criticizing me for daring to dispute Christopher Fowler's numbers cannot agree with him or with themselves as to the number of embassy attacks that occurred under President Bush's administration. But they at least agree that it was not 30, which was my point.

As for the stimulus, I think it is very telling that the President's supporters cannot measure its results by the standard set by the President in selling the bill. Our economy's slow recovery to date has been in spite of the stimulus, not because of it.

But the economy is too large, and Americans are too productive, to be entirely held back by the poor policies of a single President. I will hope that President Obama will show in his second term that he has learned from the mistakes of his first, and, failing that, that America can get back on its feet anyway.
