a fancy gimmick called "tax inversion" could allow Walgreens to continue cashing in on U.S. profits, while dodging an estimated $4 billion in taxes over the next five years. The majority of the company's $72 billion in sales last year were made in the Un

Your action has been submitted. This type of crap must end. But with Big Pharma padding our Elected Officials wallets they get away with things like this. We must go Universal Health Care and if you haven't joined the May Day PAC please consider doing so.

So much for being a socially responsible corporate citizen! Perhaps this is the time when tax laws have to change to incorporate a tax at source policy. For example, if 50% or more of revenues come from the US, then revenues are taxed at US rates. Otherwise, companies could be changing "head offices" far too easily for nothing more than taxes.

You do realize this speculation wasn't even raised by Walgreen but an analyst making a comment about the possibility after they acquired Alliance Boots? Walgreen's federal income tax bill $1.1 billion and if they could reduce that by 10%, the question is why, Additionally, they might not even qualify for an inversion after buying Alliance Boots as inversions based on overseas acquisitions work only if more than 20 percent of company stock winds up in the hands of foreign investors. Secondly, most companies that have done this haven't been well known names, and they could expect a huge backlash.

Used to work for this company for 19 years , it went from customer and employee oriented to a Pill-mill where quantity rules over quality .

For your info--a Walgreens here is not very well liked for what happened recently. Luckily a lady who happened to be in the store recorded it on her phone. A man with a service dog entered and was asked to leave. The man told them it was his service dog and he had to have him with him--hence the general manager came out and stated "You were told to get the f--- out of this store with that dog!" Employees walked out along with other customers. A call was made and situation was reported-the lady was asked for the recording and told them they could have a copy but were not getting the original. The store is still closed at this point in time-it has been going on two weeks now. Still awaiting further news. No reason for stuff like this to happen. Sad. Thank goodness the woman got it recorded--proof is there. Chances are the general manager is going to be without a job.

UPDATE - SUCCESS!
Received this email today:

Joanne,

Last Friday I sent you an email about how Walgreens was considering moving their corporate headquarters to the tax-haven of Switzerland to avoid paying U.S. taxes.

Over 10,000 Working America members like you took action, and Walgreens listened.

In breaking news, sources are reporting that Walgreens has decided to keep its corporate headquarters here, in America1.

You spoke out, and Walgreens listened. Can you help us spread the word now?

Joanne, you made an impact and you should feel pretty good about that. This is what strength in numbers looks like. When we all come together to hold corporations accountable, we can really make a difference.

There is also a graphic but I can't include it here.

Walgreens is one of the biggest supporters of ALEC, one of the chief tools of the oligarchs to undermine workers' rights in our nation. #BoycottWalgreens
