Some brokers are willing to lower their fees or help their clients save in other ways. But you have to ask.

Good post, thanks Kristi! The continuing collapse of real estate values will result in lower standard commission rates. The old levels of 6 and 7% were sustainable as long as real estate values grew consistently. The growth of For Sale by Owner and other alternative methods of selling a home will force realtors to lower their compensation.

Very informative read, but don't forget you get what you pay for. These people are in the business to feed their families and for some it's the only income they have. So many think that real estate, mortgage lender professionals should eat their fees, but do not realize that their are families and office personnel depending on that fee. So if you don't want to pay it you need to sale the home yourself, or hire one of the do it yourself orgainizations rather than fleece someone, because you think he or she is earning too much. I'm not a real estate person, but work in the industry and their are a lot of single Moms in real estate who are runied due to unpaid or unclosed deals.
