"The arrests come as more than 5,000 troops and federal police are deployed in the western state of Michoacan.

The troop surge, one of the biggest in the anti-drugs campaign, comes after a local drug gang launched co-ordinated attacks in 10 cities last week.

The state governor has protested against the "military occupation".

The federal authorities say they are investigating links between the municipal police and drug traffickers in the murder of the agents, whose bodies were found bound and gagged and shot through the head next to a major highway.

In a statement, prosecutors said the detentions would enable them to strengthen evidence that the officers "undertook criminal acts" in support of the Michoacan drugs gang and to "determine their responsibility for the murder of federal agents".

If the US has ever stepped into the internal conflict in another country, it should be this one. The money that fuels this violence comes from drug addicted Americans. The weapons that perpetuate this violence are bought in the US. The US bears the responsibiity with Mexico for this problem.

Are you that blind to what causes the violence, Dee C? The money!! Drugs are out of the governments control! The CARTELS control illegal drugs! Big Pharma and the government control legal ones. Do you think that the Cartels want to legalize drugs? That is the only way the violence will stop. Take the profit away, nothing left to fight about.

Of course, the ones fighting the hardest for prohibition are the prison builders, prison unions and the law enforcement community that counts on 'Drug War' funds to survive.
How do you profit from drug prohibition, Dee C? I find that everyone wanting to continue this failed drug war are either terribly misinformed, or they profit from the status quo.

Not blind at all..not misinformed and certainly have no profit in it..

Whether the drugs are illegal or legal..Those who are addicted and those who feed them the drugs..are the cause of destruction..violence..death..crimes..corruption..
